Avana Sushi Opens New Location on

"We have a lot of customers who go to our Chinatown restaurant," said Jonathan Lin, manager of the new location. "They work here in Downtown Crossing and wanted us closer. We have already seen a lot of regular customers from Chinatown at our new Franklin Street location."

The new space also provides more space for their growing catering business.

BID Ambassadors Smart System Uses Modern Technology to Save Time While Helping Improve Neighborhood

BID Ambassadors recently started using iPad Minis and tablets for the program's new Smart System. The Smart System enables ambassadors to track in real time about things such as maintenance requests, providing directions to visitors, umbrella escorts and more.
Ambassador Lilly notes graffiti through the Smart System on an iPad Mini.
"It allows us to deploy the ambassadors over time to the spots that need more attention and take a look a trends and how we can fix them," said Steve Brookes, BID Clean & Hospitality Operations Manager.

Ambassadors were previously writing down requests for snow removal or call into dispatch to report that a big belly needed cleaning. In the case of a graffiti they would need to have someone take a photo of it before removing it. Now they can log maintenance requests in real time, perform the maintenance, including taking before and after photos and then close the maintenance request case. The new Smart System clearly saves ambassadors time by enabling them to log jobs performed or needed.

City Launches Pilot of New Boston Website and Wants Your Feedback

The City of Boston launched a pilot version of its new website last week at pilot.boston.gov.

"Over the next several months, we'll be building on the site and we'll be changing it, adding new concepts to it, adding content," said Lauren Lockwood, the city's Chief Digital Officer. "We can learn a lot from people by launching early and iterating often."

During the pilot stage of the website residents are getting a preview of the design and also a new way of organizing information called Topics. During interviews with residents,it was made loud and clear that the old website had plenty of information, but it was so segregated by department that many resources were impossible to discover.

Check out the pilot site and email your comments to
