Macy's Family Fun & 
Tree Lighting on Nov. 27th

Macy's annual Family Fun & Tree Lighting will take place on Friday, Nov. 27th with Peanuts activities, live entertainment, all culminating in the Macy's holiday tree being lit! 

Starting at noon, Macy's Kids Department will have a day filled with Peanuts activities for the whole family. Bring your camera for a picture with Santa and Snoopy. Spend $100 or more in the Kids Department to receive a pair of tickets to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer The Musical at the Shubert Theater or enter to win four tickets to see the show. You can also enter to win four tickets to see Elf The Musical at the Wang Center.

Starting at 5 pm on Summer Street outside of Macy's will be performances by R&B and soul singer Chrisette Michele, Boston-based alt-pop trio Best of Friends, The Boston Children's Chorus, saxophonist Elan Trotman, and runner-up on Season 8 of The Voice Meghan Linsey. Then Mayor Marty Walsh and Santa Claus will reveal Macy's grand windows and light the holiday tree! After the show head inside to Macy's to meet the celebrity lineup. This event is subject to change or cancellation.

The Nutcracker by the Boston Ballet Opens Nov. 27th 

The Nutcracker by the Boston Ballet opens at the Boston Opera House on Nov. 27th. 

Mikko Nissinen's The Nutcracker will capture your imagination and transport you to a magical world of brave toy soldiers and dancing candy canes. Follow Clara as she embarks on her journey filled with colorful characters, breathtaking costumes, and majestic scenery. The show runs through Dec. 31st and there are many days with multiple shows, including 1 pm (perfect for little ones). Click here for tickets and more info.
 
Black Nativity at the Paramount Center Opening Dec. 4th

Produced by the National Center of Afro-American Artists, Black Nativity is a performance of Langston Hughes' song-play of Jesus Christ's birth. There will be 12 performances at Emerson College's Paramount Center starting Dec. 4th.  
This play is a joyous company of singers, actors, dancers and musicians delivers its powerful message of joy, hope, victory and liberation. Boston's production is the longest running performance of Hughes' song-play in the world. Click here for tickets and more info.
Enjoy Freedom Trail 
Historic Holiday Strolls 

Enjoy one of Boston's best traditions -- the Freedom Trail Foundation's Historic Holiday Stroll.

These merry 90-minute tours are led by Dickensian costumed guides leaving from Faneuil Hall Thursdays through Sundays at 3:30 pm. The stroll is complete with a tour of holiday lights and Christmas trees along the Freedom Trail, a visit to the Omni Parker House for signature refreshments. Guests receive discounts off museum store purchases at several Freedom Trail sites. Tickets are $29 for adults, $19 for children, and reservations are required 24 hours in advance. Register for 8-Week Seminar of Great Male Singers from 1940s & 1950s at Paramount Center

After his successful fall seminar on female singers of the 1940s and 1950s, David Maister is offering a new seminar on male singers of the same period.

The seminar will cover performers including Bing Crosby, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, Fred Astaire, Harry Belafonte, Ray Bolger and more. Videos will be shown along with presented biographical info.

The 8-session weekly seminar will be held on Sunday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 pm, beginning on January 31st. The seminar will be held in the Bright Family Screening Room at Emerson College's Paramount Center. The cost is $30. Discounted parking will be available. The Downtown Boston BID Ambassadors provide hospitality services seven days a week, nearly 24 hours a day, creating a welcoming environment for everyone. BID Ambassadors provide walking escorts all day or night - they'll even tote an umbrella if it's raining or snowing!

Downtown Boston Is All Dressed-Up This Holiday Season 

This week we're putting the final touches on dressing up Downtown Boston for the holidays. Trees will be lit colorfully, snowflakes will be projected onto sidewalks and streetscapes, and the famous holiday starlight banners are now LED and will be hung once again above streets.

The Holiday Night Lights Musical Program at Walgreens Plaza (Washington and School streets) will be daily from 4 to 8 pm starting Friday, Nov. 27th every 30 minutes. The program incorporates projected moving snowflakes as holiday-themed music accompany the light show. Click here for a video of last year's program.  

Also, more than 100 trees have been lit, and 200 wreaths have been hung on streetlamps throughout the Downtown Boston area. 
 
Sweet Harmony to Perform on Saturdays and Sundays on Summer Street During 
Holiday Season Starting Nov. 28th

The singing group Sweet Harmony will be performing holiday-themed music and more on Summer Street (outside of Macy's) on Saturdays and Sundays starting Nov. 28th.

The Hyde Park-based group will bring even more holiday cheer to Downtown Crossing during the weekends. They will be performing on Saturday and Sundays from 12:30 to 3 pm through Dec. 20th. This is BID-sponsored entertainment.
 
Two Strolling Performance Groups This Holiday Season: Downtown Boston Holiday 
Brass Band and Twilight Carolers

The BID is sponsoring two strolling groups this holiday season: the Downtown Boston Holiday Brass Band and the Twilight Carolers.

The four-piece Downtown Boston Holiday Brass Band will be strolling everyday through the district starting Nov. 27th through Dec. 23rd from noon to 2 pm. They will perform holiday-themed music.

The Twilight Carolers will be strolling everyday through the district starting Dec. 1st through Dec. 23rd from noon to 2 pm. They will also be performing holiday-themed music.

Restaurants Offering Thanksgiving Meals in Downtown Boston

There are several options to get great three-course Thanksgiving meals in Downtown Boston. It is recommended you make reservations. The food described below is only a portion of the menus being offered at each restaurant.

Avenue One (One Avenue de Lafayette, inside Hyatt Regency Boston) is offering a Thanksgiving menu from 1 to 8 pm. Savor a complete feast with items including a chestnut puree with toasted corn, ham, sourdough croutons and a main course featuring duck fat basted and garlic-roasted turkey, and a choice of dessert. The price is $38.95 for adults, $16.95 for children younger than 12. Call 617-422-5454 for reservations and questions.

Legal Crossing (558 Washington St.)
 is offering clam chowder and crab cakes, with pork ribs, Caesar salad and other appetizers. The main entree offerings include swordfish steaks, hoisin-glazed salmon and turkey. The meal is being offered noon to 8 pm for $55 per person. Call 617-692-8888 for reservations and questions.

The Merchant (60 Franklin St.) is offering four different appetizers, three entrees including a roast turkey dinner, steak frites and pan-seared swordfish, and don't forget dessert. Parker's Restaurant (60 School St. inside the Omni Parker Hotel) is offering a Thanksgiving buffet from 12:30 to 2 pm. Choices include turkey, roasted sesame chicken salad, duck truffle p�t�, herb-crusted sirloin, smoked salmon, appetizers and dessert. The price is $58 for adults, $19 for children younger than 12. The Ritz-Carlton, Boston Common (10 Avery St.) is offering a Thanksgiving brunch from noon to 3 pm. The buffet features carving stations with roast turkey, prime rib, seafood and more. New GNC Open on Winter Street; Offering Free Month for Gold Card Memberships 

A new GNC store is now open at 54 Winter St. GNC is a national leader in the nutritional supplement industry that prides itself on demanding truth in labeling, ingredient safety and product potency. 

The Winter Street store is offering the first month free on its gold card memberships, which is a savings card that is usually $15. Free renewals are also being offered for current gold card members.
