Free 2nd Annual Doggone Halloween 
Costume Parade on Oct. 30th 

The BID is hosting its 2nd Annual Doggone Halloween Costume Parade on Friday, Oct. 30th at noon in Downtown Crossing (outside of Macy's). This is a free event, click here to sign your dog up. There will be prizes for all dogs, including a grand prize of a one-night stay (with you dog!) at Nine Zero Hotel!

WCVB's Danielle Vollmar will emcee this event for the second year in a row. It is being cosponsored by the MSPCA and the Nine Zero Hotel. There will be numerous vendors including Pawblo Picasso, Polka Dog Bakery, Lauren MacPetography, Capital One 360 Cafe, David's Tea, Roche Bros., Macy's and more.

Tonight: WalkBoston Tech and Walkability Panel 

WalkBoston is hosting a free Tech and Walkability panel tonight at Arnold Worldwide in the Burnham Building (10 Summer St.) from 5:30 to 7:30 pm

How can we use technology to improve the walking environment in our communities? Panelists include: Elizabeth Christoforetti (Placelet/MIT Media Lab), Jonathan Mugmon (Applied Wayfinding/Legible London), Chris Osgood (City of Boston's Chief of Streets), and Caroline Smith (SeeClickFix). Last Chance: Freedom Trail 
Lantern Tour on Oct. 29th 

Experience the Freedom Trail in a new light -- after dark -- on the official Freedom Trail Lantern Tour. The final fall Lantern Tour is on Thursday, October 29th at 7 pm.

Led by 18th-century costumed guides, you'll hear about fatal sword duels, the grave of the ruthless pirate, tales of scandalous murders and the hanging of convicted witches. The tour winds its way down the Freedom Trail visiting the Granary Burying Ground, King's Chapel Burying Ground and more. 

The tour is 90 minutes long and ends at the Boston Common. The cost is $14 for adults, $12 for seniors/students, $8 for children and the price includes a $1 donation to the Freedom Trail Foundation's Preservation Fund. The BID's 133 Federal St. music series is ending for this season on Thursday from noon to 2 pm
. This performance is free and open to the public.

BID Ambassadors Provide Walking Escorts and Directions 
24 Hours a Day in Downtown 

The Downtown Boston BID Ambassadors provide hospitality services seven days a week, nearly 24 hours a day, creating a welcoming environment for everyone. BID Ambassadors provide walking escorts all day or night - they'll even tote an umbrella if it's raining or snowing!

Annual Meeting on Oct. 28th

The 2015 annual meeting of the Downtown Boston BID will take place at the Havas/Arnold Worldwide's Burnham Cafe in the Burnham Building (10 Summer St. 5th Floor) on Wednesday, Oct. 28th from 4 to 6 pm

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh will deliver the keynote address. The business portion of the meeting will occur from 4 to 5 pm. A reception to follow from 5 to 6 pm.

Project Sensors Counting People, Vehicles, Air Quality and More in Downtown Boston 

For the past several months the BID has been working with the MIT Media Lab and the City of Boston to gather data to better understand how people utilize Downtown Boston streets. The number of people using sidewalks, the number of vehicles being driven, and air quality, are just a few data points being gathered.  

Elizabeth Christoforetti, a local urban designer with the MIT Media Lab, is leading the project, called Placelet. Along with the BID, she is also working with Boston's Office of New Urban Mechanics and the Boston Redevelopment Authority

Utilizing sensors affixed to street lamps data is being collected to help in a number of planning efforts such as the width of sidewalks, the number of parking spots for cars, lanes for bikers and more.

Godfrey Hotel Boston Hiring for November Opening and Local Downtown Businesses 
Expanding to New Locations 

The Godfrey Hotel Boston (505 Washington St.) is slated to open in late November and is currently hiring for several positions. 

Meanwhile some local Downtown Boston businesses are expanding in Massachusetts and beyond.
Blank Label (36 Bromfield St.), the custom made menswear clothing store, recently opened its second location, expanding to Washington, DC. Blank Label is a custom wear mens clothing store.

Pedro's Tacos (55 Bromfield St.) recently opened a new store in San Clemente, California, its fifth location and fourth in the Golden State.

Thirst Juice Co. (44 School St.) recently announced its plan to open its second location with a new business in Wellesley.

Metropolitan Area Planning Council 
Fall Meeting on Oct. 29th 

The Metropolitan Area Planning Council (60 Temple Place) is hosting its annual Fall Council Meeting on Thursday, Oct. 29th at the UMass Boston Campus Center. The meeting is from 9 am to noon

MBTA: Public Invited to Pick Exterior Designs for New Subway Cars

The MBTA is holding online voting for the public to select the exterior designs for the new Green, Orange and Red Line cars. Click here to take the survey on a link halfway down the webpage.

Votes will be accepted for two weeks through Tuesday, Nov. 3rdThe first 152 new Orange Line cars are scheduled to be delivered beginning in 2018. The first of 24 new Green Line trolley cars will be delivered in 2017, and the first of 132 new Red Line cars are scheduled to be delivered starting in November 2019.
 
Voice Your Opinion on Potential 
MassDOT Transportation Projects

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is holding a series of public community meetings -- Capital Conversations -- to solicit input on potential transportation projects to be included in the agency's upcoming five-year Capital Investment Plan for Fiscal Years 2017-2021.

There are no public meetings scheduled to occur in Boston at present time. But MassDOT is encouraging those who are unable to attend the meetings to join the Capital Conversation online by sharing their ideas by emailing [email protected]. You can also submit your thoughts and ideas by clicking here.

Free Flu Shots at St. Anthony Shrine on Wednesdays and Fridays and Nov. 1st

St. Anthony Shrine (100 Arch St.) is offering free flu shots while supplies last. The flu shot clinic is open Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 am to 1 pm. There will also be a special flu shot day on Sunday, Nov. 1st from 10 am to 1:30 pm. No appointment necessary, just walk in. Please call 617-542-6440 ext. 118 with questions.

Serafina Boston (10 High St.) recently introduced several new cocktails and menu items to its menu.  

The Braised Shortrib, above, comes with whipped potatoes, seasonal vegetable and a crispy onion. The Poached Lobster, below, comes with roasted delicate squash, cauliflower puree and roasted garlic beurre. Other new menu items include a Cornish Hen and a Rack of Lamb.
