Official Boston Fashion Week 
Opening Event on September 27th 

Boston Fashion Week's official opening event is on Sunday, Sept. 27th (100 Federal St. 6th Floor) from 7:30 to 9:30 pm. Click here for a brochure on all Platform Downtown at Boston Fashion Week events (you may need to expand the size of the brochure).

This event is an opportunity for you to see and be seen with designers, photographers, models and all the important fashion professionals who make fashion happen throughout the city. Guests will also be the first to see Projected Beginnings, (seen below), a multi-media installation by Bob Packert, fashion photography by Sadie Dayton, and "White Wash" a series of paintings by artist/designer Robert Merton

Admission is $40 and tickets are available hereA cocktail will be included with your ticket and lite bites with a cash bar to follow.

Learn from best-selling author Lyn-Genet Recitas about how to identify foods that work for your body at a free event at Marlo Marketing (38 Chauncy St. 3rd Floor) on Monday, September 21st

New York Times best-selling author of "The Plan" and nutrition expert Lyn-Genet Recitas will talk about how to identify foods that work with your particular body chemistry in order to reduce the inflammation that causes weight gain, disease and hastens the aging process. In addition to learning how you can drop significant weight by learning how to eat foods that work for your system, she'll share easy tips and tricks that anyone can do for better health.
 
This event is free, but space is limited so please RSVP here to reserve your spot. This event is from 6 to 7:30 pm.
Tonight: 'The Proof Is in the Pudding -- New England's First Food Fight' at the 
Old State House

Tonight at 7 pm will be "The Proof Is In the Pudding: New England's First Food Fight" at the Old State House (206 Washington St.). Come learn from a panel discussion about Native American and English food traditions.

This free event is part of the Charter Day 2015 activities sponsored by Partnership of The Historic Bostons. The panel will include Katherine Grandjean of Wellesley College's history department and Loren Spears, executive director of the Tomaquag Museum. Learn How to Draw a Square in 15 Minutes! Pop-Up Classes in 
Downtown Crossing Every Week 

The Boston Center for Adult Education (BCAE) is teaming up with the BID for a series of 15-minute crash courses every Tuesday during lunch hour in Downtown Crossing outside of Macy's (One Summer St.). On Tuesday, September 22nd, come learn how to draw a square from instructor Gary Tucker for only $10

Each class will be no more than 15 minutes in length, and only $5 or $10 (the extra $5 covers necessary class materials). Participants will receive a coupon for the amount they paid toward a future BCAE class.

Each of the following 15-minute classes will run on its scheduled date starting at 11:30 am, noon, 12:30 pm and 1 pm.

10/6 - iPhone Photography | $5

Actors' Shakespeare Project 'Othello' Opens at Modern Theatre on Sept. 23rd 

The Actors' Shakespeare Project's live performance of "Othello" debuts at Suffolk University's Modern Theatre on September 23rd

New Griffin Museum Exhibit 'Nourish' at 
Lafayette City Center Passageway 

The Griffin Museum of Photography's new exhibit "Nourish" debuted at the Lafayette City Center Passageway on September 11th. "Nourish" is a free exhibition consisting of five photographers' work that is inspired by food as subject matter. 

David Lancaster, above, photographs in his kitchen using the day's simple light while preparing an evening meal; Francine Zaslow's work is about unknown foods from different cultures; Lynn Karlin shows the bounty from her Maine farm that depicts a quiet and sculptural life reminiscent of the Dutch masters;
David Weinberg bridges his fascination with ancient manuscripts and fruits and vegetables; Amy Rindskopf focuses on the aftermath of a meal.

The Lafayette City Center Passageway (2 Avenue De Lafayette) links Macy's with the Hyatt Regency Boston and is open to the public 10 am to 6 pm daily. The exhibition will run through January 3rd. The exhibition is brought to the public courtesy of the Lafayette City Center, the BID and the Griffin Museum of Photography. 
Tupahn and Boris Popovich at 133 Federal St.: Free Performances on 
Mondays and Thursdays 

The BID's 133 Federal St. music series is free and open to the public on Mondays and Thursdays from noon to 2 pm
Tupahn is scheduled to perform on Sept. 24th and Boris Popovich, pictured, is scheduled to perform on Sept. 28th.

The BID's 125 Summer Street Soloists Series is every Wednesday and Friday from noon to 2 pm through September. All performances are free and open to the public

Boris Popvich at Walgreens Plaza on September 26th 
  
Boris Popovich will be performing live on Sept. 26th at Walgreens Plaza (School and Washington streets). This is a BID-sponsored performances.

Book Reading & Signing with Patrick Gabridge, author of 'Steering to Freedom' at Old State House on Sept. 29th

The Old State House (206 Washington St.) is hosting a book reading and signing with Patrick Gabridge, author of "Steering to Freedom" on Tuesday, September 29th at 7 pm. This is a free event.

"Steering to Freedom" is a novel based on the thrilling true story of Robert Smalls. In May 1862, Robert Smalls, a slave and ship's pilot in Charleston, South Carolina, crafts a daring plan to steal the steamship Planter and deliver it along with the crew and their families to the Union blockade. After risking his life to escape slavery, Robert faces an even more difficult challenge: convincing Abraham Lincoln to enlist black troops. Based on a true story the book tells the story of a man who becomes the first black captain of a US military ship, while struggling to navigate a path to freedom for himself, his family, and his people.

Millennium Tower Salutes Trade Builders with Topping Off Ceremony 

The Millennium Tower team held a topping off ceremony on September 17th to celebrate the ceremonial last bucket of concrete used in the 60-story building. After several speeches on stage in front of a large video screen, Mayor Marty Walsh radioed the crane operator to lift the final bucket, which included a Christmas tree and an American flag.

Anthony Pangaro, principal of Millennium Partners-Boston, started by thanking all the hard-working individuals responsible for building Millennium Tower. He added that despite the horrendous winter, which knocked back six weeks of production, the tower is still on schedule to be completed on time. 

In addition to Pangaro, John Fish, chairman and CEO of Suffolk Construction, Anthony Frias, president, treasurer and CEO of S&F Concrete and Christopher Jeffries, founding partner of Millennium Partners, also spoke.  

The ceremony was attended by more than 450 construction workers who worked and are continuing to build Millennium Tower, which will open in 2016. Before the ceremony the construction workers were provided a catered meal to thank them for their hard work.

"Origin" -- A Fashion Short Film by Bearwalk Productions on Sunday, Sept. 27th at 100 Federal St. (ground level theater) at 6 pm"Origin" was conceived as a way to connect an entire community to the world of fashion. The screening will be followed by a conversation with the filmmakers Brian Tortora and Daniela Goncalves. THE HAND OF FASHION: Fashion Artisans on Monday, Sept. 28th at 100 Federal St. (6th Floor) at 6 pmThis event will focus on the art and craftsmanship that goes into producing a fashion garment or accessory. It will feature the work of knitwear designer Dylan Uscher, jeweler Magdalena Stokalska, fashion designers Maryanne Meservey and Chynna Pope, milliner Marie Galvin, handbag designers Shaunt Sarian and Kent Stetson and other local fashion artisans. Guests will see artists' work on display in a gallery setting while fashion artisans demonstrate their techniques and answer questions. A selection of products produced by the featured designers will be available for purchase. City of Boston Releases Request for Proposals to Enhance City Hall Plaza, 
City Hall and 26 Court St.

The City of Boston issued a request for proposals (RFP) for designers to develop a master plan for City Hall, City Hall Plaza and 26 Court St. The result of this plan will be a vision and a road map for the operation and design improvements to those facilities.

The effort to improve City Hall Plaza by calling for a plaza partner is one of three interrelated proposals: Campus Plan RFP, Plaza Partner RFP, and Civic/Cultural Partner RFP. All share the same goal of making the plaza a more welcoming and vibrant space for residents and guests. More information about the plaza partner RFP is available here. Responses are due no later than 4 pm on October 26th.

The Downtown Boston BID Ambassadors provide hospitality services seven days a week, nearly 24 hours a day, creating a welcoming environment for everyone. BID Ambassadors provide walking escorts all day or night - they'll even tote an umbrella if it's snowing!
