Lantern Illumination to Celebrate Liberty Tree's 250th Anniversary on Aug. 14th

Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Liberty Tree on Friday, August 14th at 8 pm as 108 copper lanterns are lit. This event will begin at Liberty Tree Plaza (Washington and Boylston streets).

On August 14, 1765, thousands of Bostonians gathered beneath an enormous elm not far from Boston Common to protest the hated Stamp Act, which taxed the people of Massachusetts without their consent. The protest convinced the official charged with administering the tax to resign his office, and the tree where the protest had begun received a new name: The Liberty Tree.

The lanterns will be decorated with artwork and together will give expression to the meanings that the Liberty Tree holds for the people of Boston today.

Speakers will include historian Nathaniel Sheidley of the Bostonian Society. This event is a presented by Medicine Wheel Productions, the National Park ServiceRevolution250, the Bostonian Society, and a coalition of historic organizations.

Reenactment of the Stamp Riot Act on August 15th

On Saturday, Aug. 15th at 4 pm, there will be an event to commemorate the enduring legacy of the Liberty Tree. Historic reenactors in period costume will march from the site of the Liberty Tree to the Old State House to protest the coming Stamp Act.

Can the stamp distributor be compelled to resign his post? This event is co-sponsored by the Bostonian Society, the National Park Service and Revolution250This event will begin at Liberty Tree Plaza (Washington and Boylston streets).

Live-Action Game 'Echoes from the Past' Includes Hunting for Ghosts

The Bostonian Society is presenting "Echoes from the Past," a free, live-action game in Downtown Boston on Saturday, August 15th from noon to 4 pm. Discover riddles, ciphers, grudges, and plots to learn the story of Boston's historic Stamp Act protest.

Players of all ages are invited to begin their adventure by picking up a guide booklet at the Old State House (206 Washington St.) admissions desk, or at any of the BID information carts. With the guidebook in hand (or using a web version on their mobile device), players will hunt for ghosts or "Echoes of the Past." Live costumed interpreters will quickly draw players into the political intrigues of 1765.

After collecting a stamp for their book from each character in the game, players will discover the game's thrilling climax at 4 pm to participate in an 18th-century mob to protest and march from Downtown Crossing to the hub of colonial power, the Old State House.

Clothing from Italy Offers Custom Made by Italian Tailors and More

You do not need to go to Italy to have a custom made suit by an Italian tailor - you just need to go to
Clothing from Italy (42 Bromfield St.).

Guiliano Rubini's family has been involved in the suit business for several decades in the Greater Boston area, and decided to open a store earlier this year in downtown Boston. "This is a match with the Financial District with the product we sell. Demographically, there is a need for good Italian clothing," said Rubini. The store sells suits, shoes, ties, hats, pants, sport jackets, belts, socks and more.

To provide custom suits made in Italy, the business utilizes Skype to communicate with a tailor in Italy to measure customers in the Bromfield Street store. There is a large television in the front of the store at which the customer chooses the model, fabric, design and anything else, which is all seen by a tailor in Italy. A tailor at Bromfield Street also takes the customer's measurements and provides them to the tailor in Italy. The suit is then made in Italy, provided to the customer in the US within three weeks, and any adjustments can be made in house.

Clothing from Italy offers two price levels, with both being made with Italian materials by Italian companies. The base suit can cost $289 and more, and the custom made suit can go from $700 to $2,500. The store is also offering 50% off everything through August 15th.

Clothing from Italy is open 10 am to 8:30 pm Saturday to Monday and by appointment only on Sundays. Call 617-426-7800 for more information or to make an appointment.
