Dine with Design for Dining Exhibition at Seven Downtown Boston Restaurants

The Design Museum Boston has paired with seven Downtown Boston restaurants for an exhibition "Design for Dining" opening on June 11th
Inside the dining area of Legal Crossing, which was teamed with Bergmeyer Associatse.
The Design for Dining exhibition will showcase installations that demonstrate how designers shape the dining experience. For Legal Crossing, Bergmeyer Associates created a circular private booth in an underutilized corner of the space, fronted by a singular window overlooking Washington Street. Visible from the street through a peep hole, the perfect setting for an intimate five-course meal was specially designed to tantalize all five senses. Further heightening this experience, the tactile seating utilizes a half dozen textures of hide and the back-lit glass mosaic table top imperceptibly shifts from amber to crimson over the course of the dinner.

Including Legal Crossing and Bergmeyer Associates, and additional six leading design and architecture firms and restaurants were matched together: BONAPITA with Soldier Design; jm Curley with Jaywalk Studio; MAST' with NELSON; The Merchant with Payette; Silvertone Bar & Grill with Silverman Trykowski Associates; and Sip Wine Bar and Kitchen with Gate 3 Design. Each team designed and produced a new dining experience that will pop-up in each restaurant. There will be special menus and drinks that accompany these newly designed experiences from June to November.
Rendering of Bergmeyer Associates' installation at Legal Crossing is inspired by neighboring Chinatown with a nod to the former Combat Zone.
There are also three special events: On June 19th at 8:30 am at Red Thread (22 Boston Wharf Road), restaurant designer Stephen Martyak, founder and principal of StudioTYAK will be featured at a free Design Museum Mornings session, at which he'll speak on the process of designing a restaurant from the client's vision through its opening.

On July 23rd at 6 pm at all of the participating restaurants there will be an exclusive, progressive-dinner style event Downtown Table Tours for groups to visit the new dining experiences and enjoy specially designed snacks and drinks.

On August 13th at 6:30 pm at CIC Boston (50 Milk St.) there will be a panel discussion called "UNITE: Design for Dining" featuring thought leaders in the restaurant industry.

Design for Dining is being produced in collaboration with the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District.
