Jeff Beck in Concert at the Orpheum Theater on April 19th 

English rock star Jeff Beck will be performing live in concert at the Orpheum Theater on Sunday, April 19th. Along with being a solo artist Jeff Beck is known as being one of the three noted guitarist for The Yardbirds.

Freedom Trail Pop Up Book of Boston Being Launched on April 16th 

The Freedom Trail Pop Up Book of Boston will be launched with celebrations on Thursday, April 16th at 5:30 pm at the Old North Church (193 Salem Street). An interactive children's special event will take place on Wednesday, April 22nd at 2 pm, which will include a book reading and paper-punch lantern building activity. 


Created by Denise Price (pictured above), the pop up book features three-dimensional representations of all 16 historic Freedom Trail sites. 

The April 16th event will include refreshments, conversation, and a book signing. Proceeds from the April 22nd event book sales will help to preserve the Old North Church.

The book will be available for purchase in select Freedom Trail gift shops, hotel gift shops, and bookstores around Greater Boston. For more info or to purchase the book online please click here
Artists Reception for New England School of Photography Students Showcased at Artists Crossing Gallery  

The Artists Crossing Gallery (24 Bromfield St.) is hosting an artists reception featuring a show of four graduating students from the New England School of Photography on Thursday, April 16th

The artists reception is from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The above work is by Ryan Maheu.
 
'Symbols and Meanings of Liberty' at the Old South Meeting House on April 17th 

Come to the Old State House (310 Washington St.) to meet Stephen Greenleaf, Suffolk County's sheriff in 1765 as part of a lunchtime series about the meanings of liberty on Friday, April 17th

As sheriff, Greenleaf endeavored to keep the peace in Boston during the tense days and months that followed the passage of the Stamp Act. Greenleaf will share tales of trying to remove protest symbols from the Liberty Tree. Stay after the talk to reflect on the meanings of liberty today, and make your own liberty symbol in the form of a lantern or "liberty leaf" to add to OSMH's Liberty Tree.

This event is from 12:15 to 1 pm. Admission is free with Old State House museum admission, $10 for adults, $8.50 for seniors and college students with ID, and free for OSMH members and the Bostonian Society, which is co-presenting this event. This event is free for anyone 18 and younger
 
GEM's Champagne Chic Girls Night Out on April 23rd 

GEM Italian Kitchen, Nightclub & Lounge (42 Province St.) is hosting a Champagne Chic after work party with shopping, champagne, sweets and music on Thursday, April 23rd

'Ulysses on Bottles' Live at Paramount Center Through April 25th

ArtsEmerson, the World on Stage and Israeli Stage are presenting Israeli Stage's first staged production of "Ulysses on Bottles" at the Jackie Liebergott Black Box at the Emerson Paramount Center (559 Washington St.) through April 25th.

Running through April 25th, "Ulysses on Bottles" tells the story of two unlikely companions who meet in prison; and Israeli-Arab literature teacher nicknamed Ulysses and a successful Israeli-Jewish attorney who takes on his case pro bono. Their combined perspectives illuminate the different reactions to Gaza. Tickets are $25 to $49 and available by clicking here, or by calling 617-824-8400.
The Downtown Boston Brass Band is Now Taking Requests

Now that it's springtime the Downtown Boston Brass Band is roaming the streets of downtown performing from noon to 2 pm.

The four-piece band performs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday from noon to 2 pm. They perform Boston favorites like "Sweet Caroline" and take requests! And they love when you dance, take photos and cheer them on!

The Downtown Boston BID Ambassadors provide hospitality services seven days a week, nearly 24 hours a day, creating a welcoming environment for everyone. BID Ambassadors provide walking escorts all day or night - they'll even tote an umbrella if it's snowing!

What You Need to Know About Boston Marathon Logistics 

The 2015 Boston Marathon will take place on Monday, April 20th, but Marathon-related events will affect transportation and roads from April 15th through Marathon Day. 

Boylston Street will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning Saturday, April 18th until the marathon finishes. Buses and express route buses will operate a regular weekday schedule on Marathon Monday, unless specifically noted like routes that travel on Boylston Street. On Marathon Monday, Tremont Street will be closed from 5 am until approximately 10:30 am. The Silver Line SL5-Downtown Crossing/Temple Street bus will terminate at Avenue De Lafayette. There will be no service to Temple Place or Tremont Street between Park and Boylston streets.

One Boston Day on April 15th to Honor Strength of City of Boston 
  
One Boston Day is a new tradition to honor the resiliency, generosity and strength of the City of Boston on April 15th.  The day will be an opportunity to recognize the good in our community and reflect on the spirit and resilience of Boston that was exemplified in the response to the tragedy of April 15, 2013. This is a city initiative. 

Click here for the City of Boston's One Boston Day website. Individuals, businesses and community organizations are encouraged to share how they are marking "One Boston Day" on social media using the hashtag #OneBostonDay to be featured on the website.
BID members the Hyatt Regency Boston and St. Francis House are paying tribute with a special partnership. Through April 15th the Hyatt is collecting new and gently-worn sneakers on behalf of St. Francis House. Shoe donations can be made by dropping off pairs in the main lobby of the Hyatt Regency. The Old South Meeting House will open its doors free of charge to provide a site for respite and reflection and share the spirit of Boston for One Boston Day. 
Suffolk University Students Theater Production Honors Boston Marathon Bombing Victims 

Two Suffolk University seniors' theater project "STRONG: The Boston Marathon Project" began as a reaction to the 2013 bombings to find closure and strength in a time of trauma. The live theater performance incorporates real interviews with survivors and first responders and will be shown twice this weekend at the Studio Theatre (41 Temple St. 4th Floor)

"We want people who were at the Marathon that day to have their voices heard," said Paige Monopoli. "It is important to keep talking about it so that no one forgets how it impacted the whole city and how we all rose up together."

Monopoli and Alexa Cost conceived, wrote and are co-directing the production as their Senior Capstone project. The two interviewed victims and first responders, which creates a documentary element of the production. The production is set in a subway car as the characters recall their experiences from the marathon and talk about their hopeful futures.

Annual Boston Shines Clean-Up on May 8th: Volunteers Wanted 

The City of Boston's annual Boston Shines neighborhood clean-up day will take place in Downtown on Friday, May 8th from 8 am to noon. As in years past the Downtown Boston BID hosts the downtown Boston Shines. 

Volunteers are wanted! To RSVP please email David Ertischek at [email protected] with your name, organizational affiliation, and anyone else from your group who may be participating. In past years volunteers have painted, cleaned up flower and plant beds and more. See you at Boston Shines!
 
Hire a Boston Teenager Through Mayor's Summer Jobs Program 

Every summer, the City of Boston and the Boston Private Industry Council (PIC) organize employers to participate in the Mayor's Summer Jobs Program. More than 3,000
Boston Public School students are hired each summer by more than 300 Boston businesses. To hire a student or learn more about summer jobs, please click here. The chart below shows how much it costs to hire a student.

Most jobs start on the first Monday after July 4th, though graduating seniors are available earlier. Most programs end in the last full week of August. Many students are also available and willing to continue working on a part-time basis into the school year. 

The PIC can help you coordinate interviews to select the student who best meets your needs. If you choose not to interview, the PIC can identify students for you based on your hiring criteria. PIC Career Specialists work closely with students prior to the summer to prepare them to join your workplace through a series of job readiness workshops and career exploration programs. A dedicated PIC Employer Account Manager is available throughout the summer and school year to answer your questions and solve problems, ensuring a productive and beneficial summer experience.

Proposed Congress Square Project IAG Meeting on April 13th 

The Boston Redevelopment Authority is hosting a meeting for Impact Advisory Group members to discuss the proposed Congress Square project with the development team. This meeting is open for the public to come and listen and is taking place on Monday, April 13th at 7:30 pm at the BRA's Board Room on the 9th Floor of City Hall.

Public Meeting #5: Central Artery Ramp Parcel Study Along Rose Kennedy Greenway on April 15th

MassDOT and the Boston Redevelopment Authority officials have initiated a study to define potential cover alternatives for the open ramp portions of Central Artery/Tunnel Parcels 6, 12, and 18 along the Rose Kennedy Greenway. This is the fifth public meeting and will take place at Boston City Hall, 9th Floor, on Wednesday, April 15th from 6 to 8 pm.
