Culture Clash 30th Anniversary Tour Live at the Paramount Center

The three-man comic hurricane of Ric Salinas, Herbert Siguenza and Richard Montoya known as Culture Clash returns to Boston celebrating their 30th Anniversary as the most prominent Chicano-Latino performance troupe in the country. This live show is running from March 11th to March 29th at the Jackie Liebergott Black Box at Emerson's Paramount Center (559 Washington St.)
From Southern California, master storytellers and social anthropologists Salinas, Siguenza and Montoya remix iconic moments from their signature satiric, comedic political commentary including sketches told from Boston, San Francisco, San Diego, Washington D.C. and Miami. This unique trio of writer/actors digs deep into America's racialized culture providing an evening of raucous and unhinged theater.

Metropolitan Area Planning Council Open House on March 10th 

The Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) is hosting its 6th Annual Open House on Tuesday, March 10th at 60 Temple Place. Meet MAPC staff, learn about their projects, region and the organization's strategic plan for 2015 to 2020.

St. Patrick's Day Brunch Club at GEM on March 14th 

GEM (42 Province St.) is hosting their annual Saturday St. Paddy's Brunch Club on March 14th beginning at noon

Omni Parker House 15th Annual Brides of Distinction Bridal Brunch & Fashion Show on March 15th

The Omni Parker House (60 School St.) is hosting its 15th Annual Brides of Distinction Bridal Brunch & Fashion Show on Sunday, March 15th

This event provides brides the opportunity to plan their perfect wedding by meeting with top local vendors and wedding experts. The fashion show is hosted by Flair Bridal & Bridesmaid of Boston and will feature the newest bridal wear. Several dedicated bridal companies will showcase their offerings. 

Guests will enjoy mimosa, brunch, cake and a wedding gown fashion show. Jenny Johnson of NESN's Dining Playbook and Boston.com's Now will emcee the event.

King's Chapel (58 Tremont St.) hosts free music recitals every Tuesday at 12:15 pmOn Tuesday, March 10th Jacob Reed will perform works by Bach and Brahms on the C.B. Fisk Organ

Rescheduled: 'Boston Going for the Gold in 2024: Transportation and Infrastructure Opportunities 
and Hurdles' 

Rescheduled: This event was to take place on Feb. 10th.

Suffolk University's Center for Real Estate is sponsoring "Boston Going for the Gold in 2024: Transportation and Infrastructure Opportunities and Hurdles" on March 17th at the C. Walsh Theatre (55 Temple St.)

The Greater Boston Real Estate Board is also sponsoring this event. Panelists will discuss how Boston can leverage its Olympics proposal to "ensure that much needed housing, transportation, and infrastructure improvements will be addressed for lasting benefits." The panel will include: Dan O'Connell, Boston 2024; Peter Zuk, Zuk International; Jeanne DuBois, executive director of Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation; Chris Dempsey, Co-Chair of No Boston Olympics; and more panelists are being added. The Lafayette City Center Passageway links the Downtown Boston Macy's with the Hyatt Regency Boston, and is open to the public from 10 am to 6 pm. This is the fourth exhibit curated by the Griffin Museum at the Passageway. The exhibit is open to the public through April 19th.

The Downtown Boston BID Ambassadors provide hospitality services seven days a week, nearly 24 hours a day, creating a welcoming environment for everyone. BID Ambassadors provide walking escorts all day or night - they'll even tote an umbrella if it's snowing!

Broadway in Boston Announces 2015-16 Season; Broadway in Boston Subscribers May Purchase Tickets Before General Public 

 

Broadway in Boston has announced its 2015-16 season and you can purchase tickets for shows today -- if you are a Broadway in Boston subscriber! Click here to become a subscriber and get tickets before the general public. 

The Boston Opera House is hosting seven of the eight shows for the season. The shows and dates for the Opera House shows are below: 

  • "Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella"  September 29th to October 11th, 2015 
  • "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" November 3rd to 15th, 2015 
  • "Beauty and the Beast" January 6th to 10th, 2016
  • "Pippin" February 2nd to 14th, 2016 
  • "The Sound of Music" March 29th to April 10th, 2016 
  • "Matilda the Musical" June 14th to 26th, 2016 
  • "If /Then" July 5th to 17th, 2016

The BID would like to congratulate new BID officers who were elected during Monday's Board of Directors meeting at the Ritz-Carlton Boston Common. Jack Spurr, president and CEO of A.W. Perry, was elected chairman of the board. Joe Larkin, Boston Managing Principal for Millennium Partners, was elected vice-chair. Bill Cowin, a Downtown Boston resident and Managing Director of Tallage, was elected treasurer. 

We would also like to thank outgoing chairman of the board John Rattigan, Managing Partner of DLA Piper, for his years of service to the BID and the Downtown Boston community.

BID Board Member Rory Cuddyer Named City's Startup Manager 

The BID would also like to congratulate our board member Rory Cuddyer on his appointment as the Startup Manager for the City of Boston. Cuddyer will lead the newly-created StartHub, a regional program to support the startup community and help entrepreneurs grow their ideas and businesses in Boston.

Salad is the Star at Newly-Opened Saladworks on Tremont Street 

Downtown Crossing resident Tien-Tien Lai knew exactly where she wanted to open a Saladworks franchise - in Downtown Boston. This week her dream is coming true at 22 Tremont St.
"I just love the concept of Saladworks. Personally, I try to eat healthy. They have options to add wheat or white pasta, romaine lettuce, kale, radicchio, spring mix, spinach and more," said Lai. The business is also offering a special deal during its first week: $6.99 for any salad. Click here for a coupon for this deal.

"I want to be cost-conscious. We have soup and really good panini sandwiches. I wanted to be a franchisee because I love all the variations that Saladworks offers," added Lai.

This is the first Saladworks in Boston, with one franchise in Cambridge, and 109 nationally, said Lai.
