BID Ambassadors Dig Out the Maggie Mae After Boat is Marooned on Lincoln and Summer Streets

It's not every day that BID ambassadors are called to shovel out a marooned boat in the middle of Downtown Boston, but that's exactly what happened on Wednesday!

The Maggie Mae from Jamestown, RI, ended up hitting a snowbank and getting stuck on a traffic island at Summer and Lincoln streets. Steve Brookes, operations manager for the BID, said it was the first time he's seen a boat stuck in Downtown Boston. The Maggie Mae is listed at 36-feet long, and was being hauled by a tractor trailer. The boat, which is for sale, was headed to the New England Boat show being held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.

A tow truck was called to haul away the Maggie Mae and the tractor trailer, and Suffolk Construction provided a front-end hauler in a pinch to remove snow around the boat.

Along with removing marooned boats, Downtown Boston BID ambassadors have been working round the clock to clear crosswalks, handicapped ramps, fire hydrants, storm drains and big belly receptacles.

If you have a question about snow removal in the BID please call the BID's dispatch line at 617-261-0066. For general citywide info please call the Mayor's hotline at 617-635-4500.

We would like to thank everyone who has helped in this monumental effort. But as a friendly reminder, property owners are required to remove snow, ice, and slush from their abutting sidewalks and curb ramps within three hours after snowfall has ended. Please visit here for all City of Boston snow removal guidelines, including the system of fines for violators.

Please visit the City of Boston's Snow Center subpage for a variety of important snow-related links, including:
