Boston Brewin Coffee Contest Will Donate 100% of Proceeds to Local Non-Profit

The owners of Boston Brewin' Coffee (45 Bromfield St.) are creating a new parent business, the People's Coffee Company, which will donate 100% proceeds to one local non-profit organization. Customers are now being asked to nominate local nonprofits on its Facebook page. The nominees will eventually be whittled down to five nominees for a voting contest to choose one nonprofit.

"Basically our goal is to give coffee shops to nonprofits," said Tom Barnes, co-owner/founder of Boston Brewin' Coffee. "We are real Bostonians wanting to use the money to make the city better through what we already do - drink coffee and doing it organically. We're not profit-based, we're people-based."

Barnes said he is currently looking at a couple of locations within the BID to launch a larger coffee shop compared to its current Bromfield Street space.

He said every employee will continue to receive a paycheck, and all business expenses will be covered, and then all proceeds will go to the one nonprofit chosen by the contest.

To start, click here to nominate a local nonprofit. Those nominees will be decreased to five nominees, and then customers will be asked to cast their vote. For $6, a customer gets one vote, a coffee, and your name on the wall; A $12 vote gets you two votes and a Boston Brewin Coffee t-shirt; $18 gets you three votes and a jar of coffee; and $24 gets you four votes and a hooded sweatshirt.

Barnes said he'd like to open multiple coffee shops that would partner with individual nonprofits which will receive 100% of that store's proceeds. Hypothetically, he estimated that the current store could conceivably donate $40,000 a year.
