Gubernatorial Forum on Environment at Suffolk Law School 

Suffolk University's Law School will host a Gubernatorial Forum on the Environment on Wednesday, October 8th. Democratic nominee Martha Coakley and Republican nominee Charlie Baker are scheduled to appear.

Pumpkin Fare 
Pumpkin Food & Drink in the District 

October means pumpkin flavored everything from teas, to desserts, to drinks. Are you a merchant with a pumpkin-based item? Let us know and we'll include it in next week's newsletter. 

Got a thirst for pumpkin? Then try out these options. Back Deck (2 West St.) is offering two pumpkin ales: Two Roads Roadsmary's Baby is a traditional pumpkin ale with a Two Roads spin. It's aged in rum barrels with spices, vanilla, oak, and a touch of rum. There's also a Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale, which is a crisp and refreshing wheat ale.

David's Tea (298 Washington St.)
is offering an array of pumpkin teas and items including a pumpkin chai, and a pumpkin collection of three pumpkin teas.

Capital One 360 Cafe Accepting Donations for Greater Food Bank of Boston

The Capital One 360 Cafe (129 Tremont St.) will be accepting canned and packaged non-perishable food donations for the Greater Food Bank of Boston from October 10th through the 17th.

Pink for a Purpose at Hyatt Regency Boston to Benefit The Ellie Fund

All October, the Hyatt Regency Boston's Avenue One restaurant will serve the Pinkarita ($14) and Pretty in Pink cheesecake ($8), in honor of and recognition of all those who have been impacted by breast cancer. 

Half of the proceeds from each drink, as well as a percentage of proceeds from each dessert will directly benefit The Ellie Fund. Please ask your server for more information. 
Ritz's Pop-Up Urban Apple Orchard Benefits The Food Project 

The Ritz-Carlton Boston Common is creating its own apple orchard on each Saturday in October. The urban orchard allows guests to enjoy apple beignets, caramel apples, mini apple pastries and spiced apple cider.

All baked goods and cider are made with apples from the Belkin Family Lookout Farm in South Natick. Festive tins filled with seasonal delights are available for purchase; a tin for two guests is $25; a tin for four guests is $40. Farm-picked apples by the half-dozen and dozen, also from Belkin Family Lookout Farm, will be sold as well. Partial proceeds from items sold in the hotel's Apple Orchard will benefit The Food Project. The orchard is open from noon to 4 pm
Receive $6 Parking in Arch Street Garage When Dining at The Merchant 

Parking can be very expensive in Downtown Boston, but it's a little cheaper after you dine at The Merchant (60 Franklin St.)

If you park in the garage at 33 Arch St., get your parking ticket validated at The Merchant and parking will cost you $6. Ask your server for more information.

The Downtown Boston BID Ambassadors provide hospitality services seven days a week, nearly 24 hours a day. BID Ambassadors provide walking escorts all day or night - they'll even tote an umbrella if it's raining!

Reserve Your Seat for 'Head to Toe All Male Fashion Show' at Petit Robert Central 

As part of Boston's Fashion Week, Petit Robert Central (101 Arch St.) is hosting the "Head to Toe All Male Fashion Show" on Tuesday, October 7th featuring clothing from the Caramelo Clothing Company. The show is being put on by thestylistcloset and co-sponsored by the BID


Models from Dynasty Models & Talent will strut their stuff featuring clothing from Caramelo Clothing from designer Tatiana Tejedor. Other brands being showcased include Ted Baker, Penguin, Osimum, and more. The show is during dinnertime. New Book Spine Replica Door Panels at Brattle Book Shop 

The Brattle Book Shop (9 West St.) has 20 new door panels for its outdoor lot bookcases. The panels are enlarged replicas of many books in owner Ken Gloss' personal collection. 

"We liked the idea of old book spines," said Gloss, above, who contracted former employee Andrea Evans to create the panels that protect the outdoor lot bookcases at night and during inclement weather. "We wanted some standard authors, one from Boston, one with a great illustration. We could have picked 100!" 

Gloss said the new panels were needed to replace the old ones that had worn out through the years. There will be an artist reception in celebration of the new panels on October 18th at 6 pm at the Brattle Book Shop (additional details to follow).  
Boston Becomes First City in Country with Official Literary Cultural District 

Boston became the home of the country's first Literary Cultural District after an official launch party took place at Suffolk University on October 2nd. The district includes numerous locations inside the BID, and two maps outlining the literary district's historical sites and modern sites with event programming can be seen here

The literary district highlights Newspaper Row, Benjamin Franklin's birthplace, the Brattle Book Shop, the Paramount Center, and more, within its borders and the BID's boundaries. Click here to learn more about the Literary Cultural District.
Vince Vaughn Movie 'Unfinished Business' Filming in Downtown Boston 

Downtown Boston continues to be one of the hottest spots for Hollywood movies, as the Vince Vaughn-led "Unfinished Business" was filming this past weekend. Scenes were shot on several streets including Arch and Water streets, of which the latter was very appropriate considering it was raining during the shoot.

The Boston Herald described the movie as, "...the tale of a Midwestern businessman who takes his sales team on a mishap-filled journey to try to land a big deaI."

Free Classes During Boston Fitness Launch on Boston Common 

Join the Boston Parks & Recreation Department for the Boston Fitness Launch on the Boston Common on Saturday, October 11th, for free fitness classes, demos, giveaways, and more. 

Mayor Marty Walsh, Parks Commissioner Chris Cook and Veteran's Affairs Commissioner Francisco Urena will also unveil a health and wellness project to benefit Boston residents. Free refreshments will be provided. The event is being held near the Parkman Band Stand from 10 am to noon, with a rain location of the Suffolk University Law School Building (120 Tremont St.). Guided Tour of West End Museum for Old South Meeting House 
Members and Their Guests 

The West End Museum is offering a $5 guided tour of "The Last Tenement" permanent exhibit exclusively for Old South Meeting House members and their guests. You will also be given time to explore the exhibits "Bulfinch: Boston and Beyond" about architect Charles Bulfinch, and "Tony Demarco at the Boston Garden."

Suffolk University Presents: 
"Should Boston Go Bigger? The Benefits + Burdens of Density" 

The Center for Real Estate and the Greater Boston Real Estate Board present - "Should Boston Go Bigger? The Benefits + Burdens of Density" on Tuesday, October 21st from 7:45 to 9:45 am. This event is being hosted by Suffolk University's Sawyer Business School

Panelists include: Kenan Bigby, vice president of Trinity Financial; Sheila Dillon, director of the Department of Neighborhood Development for the City of Boston; Frederick Kramer, AIA, President of ADD Inc.; and Paul McMorrow, Associate Editor of CommonWealth Magazine. Special Performance! Get Your Tickets Now for Autism-Friendly Performance of 'The Lion King'

Autism Speaks has partnered with Broadway In Boston and Disney Theatrical Productions to present an autism-friendly theater experience for individuals and families impacted by autism. 

This one-time performance is taking place on Saturday, October 11th at 2 pm at the Boston Opera House. The performance will be autism-friendly due to the following: house lights at half capacity, sounds lower in volume and intensity, judgement-free audience made up of those in need of a sensory-friendly show with their families and friends, volunteers to provide support, and a quiet area available.
