Two Tours to Learn About 'Ben Franklin: Son of Boston'
Learn about one of the most influential Americans on July 4th or 6th with Boston By Foot's walking tour "Ben Franklin: Son of Boston." Celebrate the life of Benjamin Franklin by walking where he grew up in Colonial Boston. Learn about his inventions, creation of civic, philanthropic, and educational institutions, as well as his role in the founding of America.
There will be two tours - Friday, July 4th, 3-4:30 pm; Sunday, July 6th, 11 am - 12:30 pm. Meet at the corner of School and Washington streets, at the Irish Famine Memorial. Admission is $12, $5 for Boston By Foot (BBF) members. Tickets can be purchased the day of the tour from the guide, or by clicking here, where you can also become a BBF member. |
Residential Trash/Recycling Schedules Change as of July 1st
The trash and recycling collection schedules have changed in many neighborhoods as of July 1st. The BID has TWO DAYS of residential trash/recycling collection - Mondays and Fridays.
Trash must be placed for collection no later than 7 am on the scheduled day. Trash must be placed curbside in front of the residence or in rear alleys, depending upon your street's current collection method.

Take the South Station Expansion Survey to Improve Pedestrian/Bicycling Safety
Help MassDOT identify ways to make traveling by foot or bicycle easier, safer, and more convenient in the South Station/Dewey Square area. Share your thoughts by taking the 5- to 7-minute anonymous survey. The South Station Expansion Survey will be used to shape access to, from, and around South Station. The questionnaire is available in English, Spanish, and Chinese. |

Free Lunches at Capital One 360 Caf� Monday through Wednesday

BID Ambassadors Provide Walking Escorts 24 Hours a Day in Downtown
The Downtown Boston BID Ambassadors provide hospitality services seven days a week, nearly 24 hours a day. BID Ambassadors provide walking escorts all day or night - they'll even tote an umbrella if it's raining!

Celebrate Independence Day with Harborfest and Fireworks
Boston Harborfest is a yearly celebration during the week of July 4th, and there are plenty of events happening in and around downtown.
The Old South Meeting House (310 Washington St.) is hosting events throughout the week including: "Choose a Side: Patriots or Loyalist," (all week long) or "No Tax on Tea! A Colonial Tea Tax Debate" (July 2nd at 11 am).
On July 3rd and 4th at 3 pm hear the Declaration of Independence read from the balcony of the Old State House (206 Washington St.) just like it was in 1776.

Hundreds Watch US in World Cup at City Hall Plaza; Next US Game Being Shown on July 1st
America's love for soccer and the World Cup was on display on Thursday at City Hall Plaza when hundreds of red, white, and blue spectators attended a viewing party of the US vs Germany. Although the US lost 1-0, the team still advanced to the next round! The city is hosting more World Cup Viewing Parties. On Tuesday, July 1st at 3:30 pm, the US vs Belgium game will be shown, and the Championship Game will be shown on Sunday, July 13th starting at noon, with kickoff at 3 pm. The viewing parties are a family-friendly event with a few food and entertainment vendors. There's also no bad seat in the house with the movie screen-sized TV showing the game (shown above). |
Co-working Space Coalition Boston Hosts Launch Party
Coalition Boston, a co-working space on the 19th floor of 101 Arch St., hosted a well-attended launch party on Wednesday for its members, visitors, and prospective clients. Visitors were welcomed with tasty food and given tours of the space by employees including Angela Wu, above left, with Coalition member Matthew Barison, partner Barison Law. The co-working space launched earlier this year, and provides private office space with floor-to-ceiling modern amenities. Chris Kazarian: Performing at Berklee Performance Series This Week
The Berklee Performance Series, featuring students from the Berklee College of Music, takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays and is a perfect way to spend your lunch break.
Performances are at 100 Summer St. (adjacent to Long's Jewelers), from noon to 2 pm. Chris Kazarian, pictured above, will perform on July 1st and 3rd. Kazarian is a young, vibrant artist from Worcester. He is the lead singer for the locally award-winning funk/rock/soul/indie band Kids on a Hill. He's also known as one of the nine members of the U-Mass Doo Wop Shop's "Disney Medley," which has gotten more than five million views on YouTube. Musician Tom Zmuda is scheduled to perform on July 8th and 10th. Click here for a full schedule of performers.

Enjoy Music at Readers Park/Irish Famine Memorial Plaza During Lunchtime
The Readers Park/Irish Famine Memorial Plaza Lunchtime Music series continues with Arthur Smeall, pictured below, on July 11th and 12th.
The series runs on Fridays and Saturdays in front of the Walgreens Emporium (intersection of Washington and School streets) from noon to 2 pm.

$3 Movies at AMC Boston Common 19 Support Good Causes
All summer long AMC Boston Common 19 is showing $3 movies Monday through Wednesday at 9:30 pm. All proceeds will go to the Will Rogers Institute, the Autism Society of America, Autism Speaks, and AMC Cares.

The market has a new location (125 Summer St.) this year due to construction on upper Summer Street. The market features original artwork, food, crafts, and more, from local artisans.
