New Location: Boston Calling Block Party Series Starts Thursday at Dewey Square 

The Boston Calling Block Party Series kicks off its summer season of live entertainment on Thursday, May 8th with a new location this year - Dewey Square  

Crash Line Productions, in partnership with the

Downtown Boston Business Improvement District (BID) and The Rose Kennedy Greenway, are co-hosting the 2014 Boston Calling Block Party series. The parties will be held every Thursday from 5-8 pm in Dewey Square, directly across from South Station. 

 

All events are free and open to the public. The new location is due to construction on Summer Street. 

Enjoy live entertainment by local bands and DJs, and an assortment of beer and wine options. The farmer's market and food truck pavilion will also be open during the block parties, offering farm fresh local produce and artisanal items.  

Mother's Day Brunches 
Where Are You Taking Mom for Brunch on Mother's Day? 

There are plenty of brunch options for Mother's Day on Sunday, May 11th, in Downtown Boston this year, and here are just a few.

The Merchant is launching its brunch menu on Mother's Day, which will be offered from 10 am to 3 pm. Click here to make reservations. The Merchant is located at 60 Franklin St.   
 
The Ritz-Carlton is hosting a Mother's Day Brunch from 11 am to 2 pm, which will also benefit The Women's Lunch Place. Guests may bring new, small toiletries that will be donated to the women's daytime shelter. Children are invited to create "thinking of you" greeting cards to accompany the toiletries, which The Ritz-Carlton also plans to donate. Salvatore's Restaurant is giving a special gift for mom to the first 10 reservations at each of its five locations. Call 617-542-5555 to make a reservation. There will be a special Mother's Day menu. Salvatore's is located at 545 Washington St.

The GEM Brunch Club is offering music by Malyna, $5 pink sangria, $75 Veuve rose bottles - and flowers for every reservation. Brunch is being offered 2 to 6 pm. Please call 617-482-1213 to make reservations.

Millennium Partners announced that registration for prospective buyers interested in purchasing condo at the highly-anticipated Millennium Tower has begun.

Banners touting "The City Rises From Here" now surround the construction site of the tower, which will eventually be a 60-story luxury residence tower slated to open in 2016.

Calling All Artists and Crafters! Sell Your Goods at the Summer Street Arts & Crafts Market 

Calling all artists and crafters! The Downtown Boston BID's Summer Street Arts and Crafts Market is returning on Wednesdays and Fridays from May 2 through October 24. The BID is looking forward to the market's continued success at its new location, 125 Summer Street Plaza.   

Artwork must be original and handmade by the artist or artist's studio or enterprise. No mass-produced or imported goods are allowed. Artists and crafters are responsible for their own display materials and must provide their own white 10' x 10' pop-up tent.

Suffolk University Center for Real Estate Hosting Development Seminar    

 

Stay on top of the latest trends and practices in the world of real estate with Suffolk University's Center for Real Estate 6-Week Professional Development Program. The Center's first educational seminar is "Anatomy of a Real Estate Development Project: 20 Somerset St."    

Using Suffolk University's $62 million development project at 20 Somerset St. (pictured above), you will learn how a real estate project is organized and executed. Topics include: acquisition, permitting and approvals, market analysis, construction, community relations, design and financing. This program is geared towards architects, lawyers, consultants, lenders, brokers, construction managers, property managers, university and healthcare facility planners, and others interested in the public and private development process.

    

Registration costs vary from $475 to $595. This program will take place on six consecutive Wednesday sessions from May 21st to June 25th from 6 to 8:30 pm. Click here for more information and to register.

Style, Chic and Convenience! The Downtown Boston Home Tour This Saturday, May 10th

You don't need to move downtown to get a taste of living downtown -- just get your ticket for the "Downtown: Home Where The Heart Is" Tour, which is taking place on Saturday, May 10th, from 11 am - 3 pm.

All attendees must check in at this year's host hospitality suite, Salvatore's Restaurant (545 Washington St.) to receive their credentials prior to embarking on the tour. Salvatore's Restaurant will be open from 11 am-2:30 pm as a hospitality suite for tour attendees.

Congratulations to Fajitas & 'Ritas on 25th Anniversary Block Party!

Congratulations to Fajitas & 'Ritas on its 25th anniversary, which the West Street restaurant celebrated with a Cinco de Mayo-themed block party this past Saturday. 
 
Two bands, 
Drunken Logic and As The Sparrow, played live music, while Emerson College's WERS 88.9 FM broadcasted live from the event. 
Berklee Performances Series Starts on Tuesday, Summer Street Market Open on Wednesday and Fridays

New to the downtown entertainment scene this spring is the Berklee Performances Series featuring students from the Berklee College of Music.
 
Performances will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 100 Summer St. (Long's Jewelers is ground level), from noon to 2 pm. Maria Suetina (pictured above) begins the brand-new series on May 6th and 8th, with the Luis D'Elias Trio playing on May 13th and 15th

Returning this summer, but at a new location due to construction, is the Summer Street Market, which began its new season last Friday at 125 Summer St. The market features original artwork from local artisans on Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 am to 6 pm

 '[Photo]gogues: New England (Part 2)' Flash Forward Photography Exhibit Open at Lafayette City Center 

The annual Flash Forward Photography Festival began April 30th, and Lafayette City Center Hallway is hosting a month-long exhibit [Photo]gogues: New England (Part 2).   

Located at 2 Avenue de Lafayette, this exhibit is free and open to the public. This exhibit is being co-hosted by the Downtown Boston BID. The gallery is open from 10 am to 10 pm. Please click here for more information about Flash Forward and to know about other exhibits. 

'Ben-Hur' and 'Titanic' Next in AMC Classic Series 

See Charlton Heston in one of his most famous roles as Judah Ben-Hur in the 11-time Academy Award-winning movie "Ben-Hur," as part of the AMC Loews Boston Common Cinema's Classic Series.
  
"Ben-Hur" is being shown on May 7th at 2 and 7 pm. The next movie in the series is "Titanic" starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, being shown on May 11th and 14th

Annual Boston Shines Clean-Up
on May 9th: Volunteers Wanted


The City of Boston's annual Boston Shines neighborhood clean-up day will take place in downtown on Friday, May 9th, from 8 am-12 pm. As in years past, the Downtown Boston BID hosts the downtown Boston Shines. This year's event will target specific public spaces in downtown -- Winthrop Square, the Kingston-Bedford traffic island, the Irish Famine Memorial in Reader's Park, and more.

Freedom Trail Tour Schedule Expands 

The Freedom Trail Foundation tours began expanded its tour schedule on May 1, now offering 10 tours available from two locations: the Visitor Information Center on Boston Common and ArtsBoston BosTix booth at Faneuil Hall 

 

Walk Into History Tours - long the Foundation's most popular visitor experience - are offered daily on the hour every hour from the Boston Common Visitor Information Center from 11 am to 4 pm. Landscaping Team Leader Ambassador
Wanted For Downtown Boston BID 

The Downtown Boston BID is seeking a Landscaping Team Leader Ambassador. This Ambassador will provide customer service, hospitality, and operational procedures while leading and managing the team in landscaping services throughout the downtown district.    

 
Duties include: managing shift duties of the clean and safe ambassadors, observing and reporting on cleanliness of the district, advising on plant selections, planting and maintaining containers/beds/borders, instructing and supervising sub-contractors, and more. A valid drivers license is required, as is the ability to lift 50 pounds or more when needed.
