Surf and Turf Is Up! Legal Crossing Now Open!

The highly anticipated Legal Crossing opened at 558 Washington St., at Millennium Place last Thursday.

Legal Crossing is the newest venture for Legal Sea Foods, which wanted to create a neighborhood-orientated restaurant. Legal Crossing has a smaller seating capacity compared to most Legal Sea Foods. And while the menu offers several options that are unique to only Legal Crossing, expect to see many tried-and-true favorites, too.

Also, the restaurant's name, menu, and decor pay homage to the area's history, as many of the cocktails are a playful nod to Downtown Crossing's past.

Ata Co. - Cutting Diamonds in Downtown Boston for 35 Years

As a 14-year-old growing up in Beirut, LebanonNabil Ata was looking for a job. He learned of  a company hiring kids to work -- and he had never heard of a diamond before. More than 50 years later, he's been a fixture in the Jewelers Exchange Building as a diamond cutter for more than 30 years.

Ata is the owner and operator of Ata Co. Inc., located at 333 Washington St. Room 523. The business not only cuts diamonds for wholesalers and jewelry stores, but also does work for individuals.

"In this part of the world you don't get new diamonds. It's mostly old cuts. I re-cut them to a modern cut, or if it's a chipped diamond," said Ata.

The technology of cutting diamonds has not changed that much through the years. Ata still uses the same bruting machine he bought 35 years ago from Belgium. "The basic cutting is still the same. A diamond grinding another diamond. Nothing cuts diamond but diamond. We use non-jewelry diamonds to grind."

Ata said that walk-ins are welcome, but recommends to call the business at 617-227-1415 before travelling from a far distance. The business is open from 9 am to 3 pm Monday to Friday, and closed on the weekends.
