Abigail Adams: Life, Love, and Letters at the Old South Meeting House

The Old South Meeting House is presenting a Middays at the Meeting House series of 18th Century Women in Their Own Words.

On Thursday, February 13th at 12:15 pm is Abigail Adams: Life, Love, and Letters

Adams claimed to write with an "untutored stile," and asked her husband, John, to destroy her letters. But he saved them, which provide a unique look into the life and times of one of America's most iconic wives, mother and patriot.

Enjoy history interpreter Patricia Bridgman playing Abigail as she uses the Adams' correspondences to bring Abigail to life. Like an HBO drama, hear from the Adamses' courtship in 1764, through the years of the American Revolution, to 1778 on the eve of her husband and son's voyage to France.

There will be two more events to this series. On February 20th will be Petticoats at the Revolution, and on February 27th will be "Lett no Country Grants to be Laid Upon our Lands."

This event is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and students, $1 for children, and free for Old South Meeting House Museum Members.

All events in this series take place at Old South Meeting House at 310 Washington St., at the intersection of Milk Street. Please enter through the museum shop entrance on Milk Street as the Washington Street entrance is temporarily closed. For more information, including directions and parking, please click here

Cocobeet to Reroot Your Life With Fresh Juices and Power Smoothies

When Kyle Rusconi looked for fresh plant-packed pre-made good food, he came up empty. As Rusconi (below left) did more research, he saw opening a juice and smoothie store that produces vegan, raw, and gluten-free options daily was the answer. Thus Cocobeet, now open at 100 City Hall Plaza, was born.

Rusconi's search for healthy local organic food was partly due to his wife, Lydia, being diagnosed with cancer at 35. Forced to change her diet, Lydia adopted a nearly-vegan diet. Now she asks her husband to come home with a Kale Karma or McGregor's Garden juice.
"We're the first cold-pressed juice bar in Boston," said Rusconi, above left. "It's a different way than traditional juicers on the counter." Cocobeet's cold press is actually several feet tall and takes five to eight hours to make juice, like the Spice-C or Watermelon Quench juices. Rusconi added that cold-pressed juices retain five times the nutrients than centrifugal presses that spin in a circle and are more water-based.

For more than a year, Kyle and his partner, Onur Ozkoc (above on the right) worked on perfecting their recipes. They also worked with a chef consultant to develop the food offerings that include vegan mac & cheese, vegan maki rolls, and veggie quinoa sliders.

"Our draw is the organic juices and super-food smoothies, plus the accompanying food [purchased separately]," said Rosconi.

Cocobeet also offers cleans packages, but the store's literature makes it clear, "At Cocobeet we are NOT into hard-core cleansing..."
After being open less than two weeks, it's already obvious Cocobeet's cold-pressed juices are flying off the shelves.

Rusconi said he's been surprised that the Mocha Espresso Nutmilk, the only item sold with caffeine, is doing great, too. Other breakfast options include a warm quinoa breakfast bowl with fresh Cocobeet-made granola.

Cocobeet is located at 100 City Hall Plaza. Cocobeet is open Monday to Friday from 7 am to 8 pm, on Saturdays from 9 am to 6 pm, and Sundays from 10 am to 6 pm. Call 857-263-8598, or click here for Cocobeet's Facebook page, or click here for Cocobeet's website.
