Cafe De Boston Expands with New Section, Pastries & Conference Room

When Cafe De Boston's owner Levent Berksan decided to lease an additional adjacent 6,000 sq. ft., he went to Europe, Chicago and New York City to research what he'd like to incorporate into the new space. He decided that high-end pastries, loose leaf teas and a brand new conference room, would complement the already thriving breakfast and lunch spot at 75 Federal St

"We call it a 'marketplace eatery' so you can eat at different stations like they're different restaurants," said Berksan. "The added pastries completes our line to have individual restaurants, but under one roof." And don't forget the chocolate-dipped strawberries or cake pops, which are made in-house. The new space also has an additional 50 seats for customers.

On the second floor, above the new take-out area, is a brand new conference room that seats 16. Armed with a new flat-screen TV, Berksan said the room is available for hourly or full-day rates for business meetings, with the kitchen menu available.

Along with the new offerings, and the conference room, Berksan is equally excited about the brand new kitchen for the cafe's catering service. Berksan said that while he can envision having another Cafe De Boston in the area, his goal is to increase the catering arm of the business.

Old State House Historic Council Chamber Gets Fancy Makeover

The Bostonian Society will unveil a complete makeover of the Old State House's historic Council Chamber on January 28th. After a ribbon-cutting at 6 pm, the public will be reintroduced to this historic space as it appeared in 1764 while the British still ruled North America, and the U.S. hadn't been formed yet.

The new Council Chamber is the centerpiece of a new exhibition "A British Town: The Council Chamber in Boston before the American Revolution."

The original Council Chamber table and chairs were lost or destroyed a long, long time ago, but records that were kept showed how the chamber was decorated.

To help with recreating the furnishings, The Boston Society tapped the trades and  fine craftsmanship North Bennett Street School in the North End, to collaborate in remaking the room. And a really cool part about visiting the chamber is that visitors aren't held back by velvet ropes. Visitors can actually sit in the same space that Samuel Adams once sat in, or sit at the table (pictured above) or in the Royal Governor's Chair.

The Council Chamber grand opening and ribbon cutting at the Old State House at 206 Washington St., and will take place on Tuesday, January 28th, at 6 pm. Jane Kamensky will be the keynote speaker; Also speaking will be Brian LeMay, Boston Society President, and Nat Sheidley, the Boston Society Historian and Director of Public History.
