Liberty Tree Park Redesign: Community Meeting - February 5

The community is invited to a meeting to discuss renovations to Liberty Tree Park, which is at the intersection of Washington and Tremont streets.



The current park is a brick area on the sidewalk featuring the Liberty Tree plaque (pictured above).
The meeting is public and will be held at the BCYF Quincy Community Center at 885 Washington St., at 6:30 pm. This meeting is being run by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department.

It's Against the Law to Smoke in Boston Parks, and You May Get Fined

A City of Boston ordinance that went into effect before the New Year bans smoking in public parks, including the Boston Common and Public Garden



Boston Police have warned smokers that they may be fined up to $250, and that park rangers and police officers will enforce the ban.   
 

The ban makes it illegal to smoke cigarettes, marijuana, vaporized substances, or any other material on properties controlled by the, according to Boston magazine.

Synergy Investments Buys 10 Milk Street

 

Current tenants in the building includes 7-Eleven, Johnston & Murphy, and Cosi. Office tenants include Partners Healthcare, Lawyer's Weekly, and the Trust for Public Land, according to the Globe.
Cornell University's Big Red Pep Band Performs Outside Macy's in Snow 

Did you know that Downtown Crossing is a destination for travelling and local college bands, like Cornell University's Big Red Pep Band? Wearing 'Where's Waldo?' shirts, the pep band played outside of Macy's on January 19th. 



Amid the snow, and while a crane was noisily moving an HVAC system - the Big Red Pep Band regaled shoppers with 12 songs during 50 minutes, including Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'" and a couple of Cornell fight songs.

 

45 Stuart Street Construction Begins
 
Just outside the BID's area, construction has begun at 45 Stuart Street. When finished, the building will feature a 28- and 30-story story, totaling 398 units. and a parking garage with 198 spots (98 spots for the public). 



The building, which will have an entrance on Stuart Street, is being erected next to Jacob Wirth restaurant. A five-story glass curtain will provide a pedestrian walkway connecting Stuart and LaGrange streets, according to the Boston Business Journal. The building will feature studios, one- and two-bedrooms, all for renting. There will also be a parking garage with 198 spots (98 spots for the public). 
Last Phase of Restoration of Old South Meeting House
 
The Old South Meeting House restoration project has entered its final phase of preserving the exterior of the historical building.
 

The last phase started on January 14th, which means the Washington Street entrance will temporarily be under construction. During construction the museum is open 10 am to 4 pm, and all visitors can enter through the museum shop entrance on Milk Street. The museum shop will remain open while restoration occurs.

Already completed has been the restoration of all windows, the bell tower, and the steeple, as well as all wooden elements on the building, said Emily Curran, executive director of the Old South Meeting House. The Meeting House was built in 1729 building, and features the oldest still-standing steeple in Boston.

Korean Fusion: InBoston Restaurant Open for Business

If you've got a hankering for some fried chicken with a unique flair then visit the brand-new InBoston Restaurant at 85 Bedford Street.  



"It's modern Korean food. Our specialty is Korean fried chicken," said owner Jason Lisecond from the left. He said the chicken is double-fried, and the spicy is spicy!

The menu offers tacos, rice bowls, and Korean fusion sides like corn salsa and pickled radish. The business opened on January 13, and has current hours of 11 am to 6 pm (closed on Sundays), and delivery will be offered soon, said Li.

jm Curley Restaurant Expands Sunday Hours to Midnight
 
Next time you're downtown on a Sunday evening and looking for a place to get some food or drink, try jm Curley Restaurant - as they have expanded their Sunday hours.
 
   

According to jm Curley's twitter feed, the restaurant will be open from 5 pm to midnight starting Sunday, January 19.

Two Presentations of 'Anne Hutchinson' Opera at Modern Theatre

'Anne Hutchinson' is a chamber opera that chronicles the trial for heresy and exile of Anne Hutchinson and, through flashbacks, her journey from England to Massachusetts in search of religious freedom.
