Celebrate Omni Parker House's Traditional "A Christmas Carol"

One of downtown's most cherished holiday traditions takes place this weekend when actor
Al LePage returns to the Omni Paker House to perform, for the 4th straight year, a special reading of Charles Dickens' Yuletide classic, "A Christmas Carol."
 


Commemorating Dickens' historic reading of
"A Christmas Carol" at the Omni Parker House in 1867--the first public reading of the story in North America--LePage impersonates 26 different characters in his rousing performance.

The reading takes place at 2 pm on Saturday, December 14th, in the Press Room. All proceeds go to the Greater Boston Food Bank; visit here for tickets and more info.   
Tea Party Reenactment On Saturday

Old South Meeting House, which recently restored its facade, celebrates the 240th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party with its annual reenactment next Monday.



The stirring holiday tradition, featuring dramatic speeches by Sam Adams, John Hancock, and other legendary figures, takes place at 6:30 pm on December 16th at the museum. Tickets have sold-out, but portions of the program are open to the general public. Call 617-482-6439 for more info.

Walsh Administration Transition:
Hearing On Basic City Services

The Basic City Services working group of the Mayor-Elect Walsh Transition Committee will host a public hearing at Old South Meeting House next Thursday, December 19th, at 6 pm.



All members of the downtown community are encouraged to attend to present their ideas as to how they would improve the City of Boston. Please visit here for more information about all aspects of the Walsh Administration transition.
NSTAR Parking Lot Reopened

With NSTAR's infrastructure project now complete, the parking lot at the NSTAR substation at the corner of Ave. de Lafayette & Chauncy St. has reopened.



Operated by Stanhope Garage, the NSTAR parking lot is open Mondays-Thursdays, 6 am-9 pm, Fridays & Saturdays, 6 am-midnight, and Sundays, 9 am-9 pm. Please call 617-262-0691 for more info.

New Vendors Showcase

The fifth-annual Downtown Boston Holiday Market
has entered its second week, accompanied by a whole new set of artisan vendors!



Among this week's new vendors are Chrioph Swift (above) and his mother Susan Swift. The mother-son team manages Swift Farms, makers of 100% beeswax candles. For a listing of vendors participating in this year's Holiday Market, please visit here.

Callahan Tunnel Closure Starts Soon

To complete a full rehabilitation of the Callahan Tunnel, MassDOT will close the tunnel for three months starting Friday, December 27th.



The tunnel is set to reopen on Wednesday, March 12th, with significant penalties incurred if there are delays. Contact [email protected] for questions or comments.

Soon after the Callahan Tunnel re-opens in March, the MBTA will close the Government Center T Station for a two-year renovation. Please visit here for more info on the Government Center project.

Ribbon-Cutting At Sweet Tooth

Downtown's newest bakery, Sweet Tooth, now open in the Corner Mall, celebrates its debut this Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.



Mayor Thomas M. Menino
will present a check from the Office of Business Development to Sweet Tooth owners David Venter (above) and Glenn Quirion.
There will be a cake-cutting with refreshments at the ceremony, which takes place at 3 pm on Wednesday at the Corner Mall. All are invited to attend!
