Cannons To Be Fired On State House Lawn Tomorrow

Voter Guide

Downtown Schools For Boston, a 500-plus member coalition advocating for downtown's public schools, has released a Voter Guide to the Boston mayoral election primary vote, to be held next Tuesday, September 24th.

The guide includes full responses from 7 out of 12 of the candidates (Arroyo, Conley, Connolly, Consalvo, Golar-Richie, Ross, Walczak), along with a comparison chart summarizing the candidates' responses in brief.

Two More Block Parties In 2013!

With the days growing shorter and the evenings getting colder,  another great year of Downtown Crossing Block  Parties must sadly come to an end. The final two bashes of the year take place this Thursday, September 19th, and next Thursday, the 26th, with the Swinging Johnsons performing this week and Nonplussed on the 26th.

As always, the Block Parties start at 5 pm on Summer Street Plaza (outside Macy's), and feature an assortment of moderately-priced beer & wine. Must be 21+ to attend.

Boston Ballet's "Night Of Stars"

The Boston Ballet, the Boston Opera House's marquee tenant for almost a decade, is flourishing
as enters its 50th anniversary season
. To celebrate the milestone, the Ballet hosts its annual "Night Of Stars" this Saturday, September 21st, at 7 pm, with a FREE performance on Boston Common.

The program includes beloved classics--like Florence Clerc's "La Bayadare" and Balanchine's contemplative "Serenade"--along with crowd-stirring contemporary pieces, such as Christopher Bruce's "Rooster." Boston Cup Classic Car Show Returns: This Sunday On The Common

Time to rev your engines! The 2nd-annual Boston Cup Classic Car Show returns to the Boston Common this Sunday, September 22nd, from 9 am-2 pm.

have assembled another gorgeous collection of vintage showpieces, with automobiles hailing from Japan, Germany, Italy, England, and the United States--including a 1971 Dodge Challenger owned by former New England Patriots lineman Matt Light (above). "Potted Potter" Plays It Up At The Paramount Center

When something becomes as big as the "Harry Potter" series, it's only a matter time before someone creates a parody! This Tuesday, at 7:30 pm, at the Paramount Center, the curtain rises on the four-week-long Boston production of "Potted Potter," billed as "the unauthorized Harry experience."

Co-creators Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner (above) take the audience on a gleeful 70-minute romp through the entire series of seven novels. They even throw in a game of "Quidditch," for good measure. Visit here for tickets and more info.

Mary Mattei

Artists Crossing, the co-op art gallery at 50 Franklin St., is pleased to announce its featured artist for September: watercolorist Mary Mattei. The gallery will host a showcase for Mattei this Wednesday, September 18th, from 5-7 pm.

"Hub On Wheels" Bike Event


As the urban bicycling movement continues to grow, the City of Boston and Mayor Thomas M. Menino's Boston Bikes initiative hosts the ninth-annual "Hub On Wheels" on City Hall Plaza this Sunday. Registration starts at 6:30 am; the opening ceremony begins at 7:45 am.

Featuring 10-, 30-, and 50-mile courses through a variety of city neighborhoods, the event is open to all ages. (Children under 10 must ride with an adult in the adult's bicycle; children 10-11 may participate in the 10 mile course.) Call 617-262-3424 for more info.

"Strada 45" Coming To 45 PROVINCE

The dining/nightlife scene on Province Street received a big jolt with the news that 45 PROVINCE has secured a restaurant tenant to occupy the space above Governor's Alley, on the patio area shared with Marliave. The space extends into the basement unit formerly occupied by the Littlest Bar.

The proposed restaurant is slated to include a bar, lounge, and wood-fired brick oven pizza. Keep reading for future updates on this exciting development!
