Downtown Crossing Home Tour
Receives Rave Reviews

The Downtown Crossing Home Tour hosted by the BID on Saturday, May 11th, was a great success enjoyed by many.

Home Tour Brochure & Flower

Visitors were fascinated with the array of homes on display. From converted loft-style spaces in the Edison (42 Chauncy St.), to high-rise units at 45 PROVINCE, The Devonshire (One Devonshire Pl.), The Grandview (165 Tremont St.), and showrooms for residences that are just coming online at the Hayden Building (8 LaGrange St.), Kensington Place (665 Washington St.), and Millennium Place (580 Washington St.), a variety of homes were showcased.

Throughout the day, tour attendees had a chance to see and hear why residents love living downtown. BID staffers and Ambassadors the district's many amenities, providing directions and updates on new developments in downtown. Attendees were amazed by the transformation since the earlier home tours of 2008: new restaurants, theater restorations--and of course the recent opening of the Walgreens emporium.

We would like to thank the residents for opening their homes for the day, along with all of our sponsors-- Sovereign/Santander, CitiBank, Citizens Bank, Macy's, LINK, Walgreens, and Block by Block--for their support and participation. Special thanks also goes to Macy's, for displaying their beautiful Hotel Collection of bed/bath/tabletop wares at 45 PROVINCE, as well as 49 Social, the tour's designated hospitality suite, for their array of delicious menu items.

Many patrons asked, "when will the next home tour take place?" Moving forward, the BID intends to schedule downtown home tours at least twice yearly.
Last but not least, to everyone who participated, we extend a very warm "thank you!"

On Time: Walgreens Clock Restoration

A finishing touch of the Walgreens emporium development was the restoration, by Electric Time, of the rotating clock at School & Province Streets (below). The clock was built in 1934 for Boston Five Cents Savings Bank, the building's original occupant.

Walgreens Clock

The restored clock becomes the seventh public clocks in Downtown Crossing. The others are located at 101 Arch Street, the Jewelers Building,  Federal & Franklin Street, Old South Meeting House, Old State House, and Filene's. Visit here for a photo gallery.
