Downtown Residential Development Continues
Following the string of new downtown residential developments, Core Investments has begun renovations to outfit 411 Washington St. for residents.
The upper stories are being converted into 14 rental apartment units ranging in size from 700-1,000 sq. ft. The building's historic Art Deco facade is also being fully restored. The renovation is scheduled to be finished in November.
Fun fact: 411 Washington St.'s first occupant was I.J. Fox Furs. The storied retailer drew a reported 75,000 on-lookers to its opening celebration in 1935.

A New (Clock) Face At 101 Arch St.
Let there be light: 101 Arch Street has brightened the downtown skyline by installing brand-new LED clock faces.

Each clock face is comprised of 24 18-inch LED strip lights. The clock faces are literally and figuratively green, drawing just 228 watts (combined). Congratulations to Clarion Partners and CBRE/New England for the great new display!

African-American Patriots Tour Downtown is steeped in African-American history, from Crispus Attucks' martyrdom outside Old State House during the Boston Massacre through today. The Freedom Trail Foundation commemorates that history during Black History Month with "African-American Patriots Tour."
Black Bostonians such as Attucks played a major role in forging Revolutionary Boston's identity and outlook. The 90-minute guided tour portrays not only Attucks but also Phyllis Wheatley, Prince Hall, Peter Salem, and other historic African-Americans.

Chinese New Year In Downtown
The Chinese Year of The Snake begins this Sunday, February 10th, and Boston's Chinatown--the third-largest in the country--is ready to celebrate. Shen Yun (above), the Chinese cultural festival, takes the stage at the Boston Opera House for three nights starting this Friday. The celebration concludes next Sunday, February 17th, with Chinatown's annual Lion Dance parade. The parade will start at the corner of Harrison and Essex streets at 11 am.

Culinary History Series At OSMH
Old South Meeting House presents a delicious topic this month during its weekly lecture series. Every Thursday in February, local food historians will present "Food & Drink in New England: Historical and Cultural Perspectives."
The smorgasbord of historic exploration starts this Thursday, February 7th, with "Beyond Baked Beans," which examines the factors that led to the development of New England's unique culinary culture. The talk is presented by food historian and author Sandy Oliver.

NESAD Exhibit At Adams Gallery
Suffolk University's Adams Gallery kicks off its 2013 exhibit season with a showcase of works by NESAD faculty members. The faculty exhibit, featuring works such as the still-life by Lydia Martin (above) and others, runs through Tuesday, March 5th. It includes paintings, drawings, photography, sculpture, and installation.
