3 Creative Ways to Drive Trade Show

Traffic in 2015

Creativity is an important component in a successful trade show display.  You can have the latest product samples but if people don't cross the threshold it can be a challenge to engage with trade show attendees.

Here are a few of the more creative ways some businesses have used to bring traffic into their trade show display. Is there one you might try?

It is All About the Power

In this day of handheld technology, finding a free electrical outlet to recharge your battery can not only be a challenge but might also be the difference between keeping your job or not. Attendees are there with a purpose for their business and if their cell phone dies with no hope for resuscitation; they might miss an important call from a client or their boss.

Creating a free charging station as part of your booth can be an effective way to attract visitors.  While their device reboots, why not ask them a few clarifying questions that may lead to productive conversation about your products and services.

A Picture is Worth a 1,000 Words

Ever since Ellen DeGeneres broke Twitter with her now famous Oscar selfie, people have been clamoring to capture their every waking moment; taking selfies, us-ies and group-ies.

Why not capitalize on that trend by offering a photo booth as part of your display. Whether you help to capture those spontaneous images or offer a way to upload them to the great cloud in the sky; it can be a great way to attract visitors to your booth.

Nabisco last month announced its title sponsorship of 5 Seconds of Summer's 2015 concert tour with an interesting twist on the interactive photo booth. The four Aussie lads who were performing on Nov. 15 at The Forum in Los Angeles watched from a secret Nabisco camera backstage as their fans posed inside the booth, then surprised them for the ultimate meet and greet and photo bomb. Read the complete story.

Once attendees were in the booth, they were offered product samples and encouraged to linger, mingle and munch.

Twitter for Traffic

Social media is growing part of consumer's everyday life. Why not tap into that desire to communicate in 140 characters or less.

Lavazza activated a series of social media-driven events across New York City on Nov. 28 that invited consumers to tweet #LavazzaDelivery for a surprise delivery. In Manhattan's Meatpacking District, eight branded Fiat 500s (Fiat was a partner) delivered hot beverages to busy shoppers and pedestrians in response to tweets. Lavazza also had a Lavazza Mobile Cafe stationed in the city to act as the hub of the program. Read the complete story.

Why not take that same concept and use it for your trade show? Create a hashtag like the #LavazzaDelivery for your business and invite people to visit your booth for a free sample, show discount or small gift. Begin the Twitter campaign prior to the event and then tweet away while you are there, offering updates, clever tips, jokes and hourly prizes. People tuned into the net will enjoy the opportunity to take advantage of special Twitter follower benefits

11 Cool Giveaways

Finally, you might consider alternatives to the traditional pen give away. Inc. Magazine published an article with eleven different give away ideas. Here are just a couple:

Get something unique to give away that you know nobody else has seen. We used
Coffee Cereal  to offer people little bags of a unique product and it worked out great. People like things that they don't see everyday. --John Hall,  Digital Talent Agents

Papers get lost. Swag gets left in hotel rooms. Instead, offer something that attendees will have a harder time losing, such as a digital download. My favorite is offering a free whitepaper or eBook that can be sent around after the conference. I ask the organizers to send it out to ticket holders and offer to email it personally. That I can easily follow up later. --Thursday Bram
