My shade of black is different from all the others. ~graffiti from the late 80's in San Francisco
In honor of all the black cats and dogs sitting in animal shelters, waiting for a good home, we launch our "Back in Black" promotion this month, featuring some of the black animals presently at the Amador County shelter. We've added white to the mix to include more of the cats and dogs here that happen to be black and white. Plus, we think "Back in Black and White" brings a certain classic, tuxedo-like touch to the party. As a note to the "fashion conscious", remember: black and white goes with everything, whether you're looking for a lap cat or a running partner.
In the LINKS section, you'll find two articles that address the validity of "Big Black Dog Syndrome", a long-held perception that black animals--particularly dogs--are slow to get adopted from shelters. These links offer insight into the interpretation of the statistics that ours and other animal organizations rely upon to measure success in their adoption programs.
On the subject of statistics, we've got our own on the intake and save rate from all of 2014 (see the "Save Them All" chart below). Also, read about the Amador County Animal Control & Adoption Center's Open House on May 30th. There will be more entertaining features than ever this year for both families and individuals who share a love of animals.
