This is the time of year when we think of home, not just as an address but as the place where we will gather with our loved ones to celebrate and honor family traditions. It is an especially good time to remember that "loved ones" are loved ones, regardless of species. We have many worthy four-legged fur-bearing loved ones here at the animal shelter, waiting for the day when they will be welcomed home--some for the first time and some for a second chance at belonging. This is that time of year, a fine time to bring a friend

As an extra holiday incentive to adopt a best friend during this season, our Adoption Center, together with one of its best friends, The Feed Barn, is offering $25 adoption fees for select dogs and cats in honor of Best Friends Animal Society's national promotion, "BRING JOY to YOUR WORLD". Why not bring joy to your world? Drop by the Amador County Animal Control & Adoption Center at 12340 Airport Road in Martell, or The Feed Barn Country Store at 11261 Prospect Drive in Jackson, to meet the wonderful pets available for this special price.

A History of A-PAL's Pit Bull Spay/Neuter Program

Too many pit bulls.Too many in the shelters, too many who are never adopted. Worry, frustration, and sadness for these forgotten animals was not enough. What could we do? How could we change what was happening to this breed? read more

Hi Kelly,
This is Nic Caciappo from Sonora. I thought I would message you to say that today marks exactly one year since we adopted Mandy. If you recall, Mandy got loose at our home and was gone for two hours. But then she came back, trying to get in through the front door! That sort of thing hasn't happened since because we cannot go anywhere without being followed by Mandy. But we don't let her run free too much, other than a couple of dog parks or our own backyard. We play with her every night in our living room. It's amazing how fast she can run--like a rabbit.
Here's a few recent pictures of Mandy at our house, attached here if you want to have a look. The last picture is great because it's Mandy waiting for my wife to get home from work a few days ago.
A happy anniversary for today. :)

Can you find the face in this tree? It belongs to Ralphie. When he first turned up at the shelter, Ralphie was a very tiny, very sick kitten in danger of disappearing altogether. Shelter staff set to work treating him, but he continued to lose weight--precious ounces he could ill afford to lose. Reluctantly, they deemed him a "failure to thrive", a classification reserved for animals who have not responded to medical treatment. In a last-ditch effort to save his life, he was turned over to one of A-PAL's most knowledgeable foster households. It was hoped that getting him into a home environment, however temporary, might be the one factor that would improve his chances. It did! Ultimately, Ralphie's foster parents fell in love with him and decided to keep him. Now he is a healthy and playful member of their family who apparently loves to help with the holiday decorations. Meowy Christmas to Ralphie and family, and to all a good night!
