The SAND FIRE: EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS gets a workout!
Friday afternoon, July 25th: A vehicle driving on dry vegetation started a fire east of Highway 49 near Sand Ridge Road on the Amador/El Dorado County line. Before it was over, the Sand Fire would burn 4,240 acres and destroy 20 residences and 47 outbuildings. Amador County Animal Control (ACAC) and Amador County Animal Response Team (ACART) worked together with El Dorado County Animal Control to evacuate animals safely from the affected area. read more

COWBOY: Lucky dog, lucky people!
When Cowboy first came our way, we could see that he was a beautiful, well-bred German
Shepherd. What we didn't see immediately was his unpredictable behavior with other
dogs. Even though his hostility toward his fellow dog was not hopeless, it was
decided, reluctantly, that he could not be made available for adoption at our County
facility. Our rescue coordinator, a volunteer, called the wonderful people at El Dorado County German Shepherd Rescue, and they agreed to take him and find him a home. Now, Cowboy is home forever. Here he is with his family. Note the ball in his mouth in the photo with his 'Dad'. Looks like Cowboy did all right for himself, thanks to all the folks who make these Happy Endings happen. Thanks, from the bottom of our hearts.
