One of our favorite Amador Shelter Partners volunteers,
Gretchen Kingsbury, has been adopting senior pets for many years. Here's what she has to say about Adopting a Senior Sweetheart and her latest constant companion, Ginger, a senior pup adopted from Amador County Animal Control and Adoption Center just a few years ago. read more

MUGSY: TNR with a TWIST
MUGSY was trapped and turned in to our shelter by a group of neighbors who were fed up with his continuous fighting in their neighborhood. Even though he was a gorgeous Siamese, he had been left, unneutered, to roam and fight. The shelter accepted him as an intact Tom who all thought was feral. Prior to 1/1/2013, he would have been held for 72 hours and euthanized. read more

ROMAN: AN 'ORDINARY' ADOPTION

Roman was just one of many deserving dogs who come through these doors--a nice "ordinary" fellow who, for reasons unknown, found himself in need of a new home. He was adopted in March, 2013. This February, we heard from his new owners. They speak best for themselves. Here's what they wrote:

We decided to adopt Roman to be a companion for our dog Sophie who came from a troubled background and really didn't know how to be a dog. Roman was a perfect fit for us with his easy going personality. Roman and Sophie are very attracted to one another. I used to bring one or the other to the office but soon realized they were not as happy without one another. He has helped Sophie come out of her shell and a year later Sophie is pretty much a normal dog.

I can't thank you enough for giving Roman shelter for the short period he was with you last March. I want you to know Roman has been given an exceptional amount of love and is living the Doggie Dream in Lake Tahoe.

Turns out there is no such thing as an 'ordinary' adoption. Hearing from the people who have adopted our animals is one of the greatest pleasures associated with being at the shelter. We feel "thanked enough" that they love Roman and wrote us to tell us so. To that we can sincerely say,

You're welcome!
