Boston bombing victim's charity helps first prosthetic recipient

Heather Abbott lost her leg in the Boston Marathon bombing. Now the Newport woman is helping to replace one lost by someone else.

Abbott, who was fortunate to receive money from the One Fund Boston for bombing victims, created a foundation to help people without such support get a high-end prosthesis - the kind that can be worn with high heels or used for running.

On Monday, her foundation will celebrate its first beneficiary. Hillary Cohen, 26, of Walpole, Mass., will receive an artificial leg at Next Step Bionics & Prosthetics in Newton, Mass.

The Town of Davidson will celebrate the Halloween season on Friday, October 30 starting at 5:00 p.m. with our traditional Halloween March along Main Street. Families should line up at town hall to parade along main street to receive treats from merchants and organizations.

Special thanks to our Davidson merchants and businesses for supporting this great event. We look forward to seeing you in costume!

Regular Halloween trick-or-treating around town will still take place on October 31.
