LOVELAND, Colo., March 29 (UPI) -- Two-year old Rotteweiler Brutus received a quadruple amputation after suffering from frostbite but can now walk again after being fitted with prosthetic limbs.

 

The Loveland, Colo., canine is the second known dog to have four prosthetic limbs after he was outfitted with two rear prosthetics in September and front prosthetics almost two months later.

 

"He's able to walk in them. It's not always pretty. We want to be able to give him a higher function, where he can run and play with other dogs, go on hikes," Laura Aquilina, Brutus's foster mom, said. "You can't explain to an animal why you are putting these contraptions on their feet. You can't explain to them, that it's to help them."

Brutus' paws were amputated by his breeder, after all four were frostbitten...
