OET News
September 2016

September OET News features an informative article about the true underlying cause of sciatica and how to become pain free. This month you will also find an article about cupping therapy. If you watched the Olympic's you probably saw Michael Phelps was proudly showing off his cupping bruises during swimming events. I discuss what cupping therapy is, what it does, and if it really has a positive effect on recovery and performance. Lastly, I have included two active alignment routines to help you walk pain free: one before-walking routine and one after-walking routine.

Don't forget to tell your friends and family I offer FREE posture evaluations and consultations to help introduce them to the pain free family!
Understanding and Treating Sciatica
Make sure to treat the underlying cause.
The term sciatica describes pain along the path of the sciatic nerve from the lower back, through the hips and buttocks, and down the back of the legs to the feet. The pain is caused by compression or irritation of the sciatica nerve typically in the lower back but sometimes originating in the hip/butt. People with sciatica are often told the cause of the pain is lumbar spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, spondylolisthesis, bone spur(s), herniated or ruptured lumbar disc, piriformis syndrome, or muscle spasms. All of these diagnoses are symptoms of posture imbalances which are the underlying cause of sciatica. Finding and treating your posture imbalances are the key to living pain free. Learn more here...
Does Cupping Really Work?
Michael Phelps and several other Olympic athletes were seen with cupping bruises during the Olympic Games.

Because of the all the attention this has brought cupping, I decided to write an article that talks about what cupping therapy is, what is does, and if it helps speed recovery or improve performance.

Before and After Walking Stretching Routines
Walk pain free by balancing your posture.
Walking is one of the most natural and functional forms of exercise and locomotion there is. Humans are perfectly designed to walk, and walk for hours over varied terrain pain free.

However, if your body is not posturally balanced, walking - like any activity - can cause pain. Even if you don't have pain while walking, that does not mean your body is balanced and working efficiently. This active alignment warm-up and cool-down will start improving your posture and prepare your body for walking.

Your free 30-minute appointment includes discussion of your symptoms and goals, posture evaluation, functional testing, and gait analysis. We will then discuss the different Posture Therapy options that are available to help you reach your goals.
