OET News
January 2016

Happy New Year and welcome to the OET January Newsletter!

I look forward to helping you make 2016 a pain free and active year. This month features a golf specific warm-up and cool-down routine to help keep you golfing pain free. I also have an article that discusses how poor posture affects lung capacity and proper breathing patterns, which is very important if you want to achieve that athletic goal you set for this year!

The holidays are over and we are back to regular life, which sometimes is stressful and overwhelming and we just need some simple advice on how to get through the week. Don't worry! Dr. Mike Evans is here with the perfect advice for you. Lately, since this is January and most people made New Years Resolutions to exercise more and statistically 25% have already failed on maintaining their goals, I have included a quick no excuses, do anywhere workout to help you. Try it now, it only takes 10 minutes!
Golf Pain Free!
Warm-up and cool-down exercises for golf.
Golf is a game of skill, technique, focus, confidence, balance, flexibility, strength, and power. Getting and keeping your body in postural balance allows you to use your talent and play to your full potential. This golf specific warm-up and cool-down will allow your body to perform better. Your body will feel the difference and your score will show the difference. Playing 9, 18, or 36 holes never felt so good! Watch the video.
How Posture Affects Lung Capacity
Chronic slouching decreases lung capacity.
We have all heard how bad posture can cause back pain, but have you thought about the affect bad posture has on your breathing? Proper breathing patterns (East-West Breathing) and having access to your full lung capacity is important for professional athletes and weekend warriors along with those with chronic lung diseases such as COPD and asthma. Bad posture, which can decrease lung capacity by as much as 30%, will negatively affect your ability to run a 5k or marathon, garden or walk your dog, carry your bags through the airport, and be productive at work. One more thing I would add to this list is doing your Egoscue Postural Alignment Therapy menu from Oregon Exercise Therapy.
No Excuses, Do Anywhere Workout
10-minute workout you can do anywhere!
Do you skip workouts because...
  • you don't have time to go to the gym?
  • it's bad weather outside?
  • you're stuck in a hotel with no workout room?
  • you didn't bring your workout shoes?
  • you only have 10 minutes?
This workout takes those excuses and throws them out the window! You don't need weights, cardio equipment, shoes, or more than 10 minutes to do this workout, and you can do this workout anywhere!

Try it and your body will thank you. Trust me. Start the workout now!

Your free 30 minute appointment includes discussion of your symptoms and goals, posture evaluation, functional testing, and gait analysis. We will then discuss the different therapy options that are available to help you reach your goals.

Visit www.oregonexercisetherapy.com or call 971-279-2189 to schedule your FREE posture evaluation today.
I believe that your chronic pain is not because of your age, genetics, past injuries, or activities you do. I believe your pain is because you have lost proper postural alignment. Correcting your posture will allow you to live the life you want to live and continue the activities you love to do, pain free! If you or anyone you know is suffering from chronic pain or injuries, encourage them to call me today - I'd be happy to help them.

Sincerely,

Matt Whitehead
