The Christmas Season is upon us and I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. This past year has seen some unique accomplishments and achievements for TVRWF.
While I celebrate What We Have Done, I am most proud of Who We Are -- Women who are dedicated to traditional values and time-honored virtues.
We are a team of independent-thinking, resourceful and talented women who give of their time and treasure to advance Republican ideals and goals. Our monthly TVRWF meetings have featured quality speakers who inform, instruct and inspire. Bonnie Parsley did a great job securing excellent speakers for our monthly meetings.
Our club membership numbers have increased and we now boast 130+ members in TVRWF. And, this was due to the dedication and hard work of Membership Chair MaryAnn Miller.
Our Caring For America program is unique unto itself. As well as supporting 4paws4patriots, we have been an integral part of the Temecula-Murrieta community during 2015. Thanks to Melody Ingram for her leadership with the Caring For America program.
In fact, our Caring For America program was cited for excellence by the California Federated Republican Women in November. TVRWF was awarded 3rd place in the Caring For America category for all Republican Women's Clubs in Southern California. Now, that is an achievement!
Our Scholarship Program is outstanding and our Charlotte Mousel Scholarship winner -- Ryan Patrick Kelly -- went on to win the County Contest. And, Sophia Hernandez served in Washington as an intern over the summer. Clarie Beamer did an outstanding job as our Scholarship Chair.
Our Spring Fashion Show was a great success and the President Reagan Lecture featured conservative activist Star Parker. Her presentation was memorable and press coverage included articles and citations in the Riverside Press Enterprise, the Valley News, and news-blogs across Southern California.
Our club was fortunate to have Alexandra Garrison and Gloria Karlak at the helm of our Ways & Means Committee.
Overall, this has been an incredible year for TVRWF and it has been a distinct pleasure serving as your president.
Wishing you a God-Blessed Christmas and a Joyous New Year!

Local Control: A Bulwark of our Democracy
By Marie Waldron
I am a strong supporter of maintaining the authority of city and county governments to decide local issues. My 14 years on the Escondido City Council as well as my service as a board member on the North County Transit District and as Escondido's representative to the League of California Cities have reinforced my belief in the vital role played by local government in our state and nation.
Our liberties are based on a system of checks and balances. In theory at least, local, state, and federal jurisdictions all balance and restrain overreaching power grabs by any branch of government that seeks to overstep its bounds.
This year a number of bills impacting local government were debated in Sacramento. Among these I was
|
Assemblywoman Marie Waldron
|
happy to support legislation facilitating the funding of Enhanced Infrastructure Finance Districts by local agencies, a package of bills regulating medical marijuana, including the ability of local governments to prohibit its cultivation, administrative adjustments to decrease the volatility of gas tax revenues as a result of price fluctuations, as well as new penalties for operating drones during wildfires in way that impedes firefighters.
I am very pleased to report that the League of California Cities has analyzed votes on key bills introduced this session and that as a result of my strong stance in support of local control, I have joined several Assembly colleagues to receive the highest score awarded by the League.
Maintaining the authority of city and county governments, with local officials deciding local issues, is obviously more efficient and likely to be more in line with public desires than decisions made hundreds or even thousands of miles away. More importantly, local jurisdictions, supported by informed and involved citizens, help keep us free.

TVRWF Marches in Murrieta's Veterans Day Parade
By Melody Ingram
Members of TVRWF marched in the annual Veterans Day Parade on Wednesday, November 11, in Murrieta.
Our club donated $25.00 for the completion of the Veterans Memorial Walls in Murrieta's City Center, and there are a number of our members who have relatives or friends listed on the Wall.
It is quite impressive and you will be glad that you "experienced" the Wall of our Heroes.
And, IF you had a chance to visit the Field of Honor Exhibit in Town Square Park in Historic Downtown Murrieta, you witnessed something very special, indeed.
Sponsored by the Murrieta Rotary Club, the Flags of Honor contains over 2,000 flags that are dedicated to friends and relatives who are veterans. This is the 7th season of the Field of Honor Week with the Parade as a highlight,
As a side-note.....There were thousands of citizens at the Veteran's Day Parade and TVRWF members carried a banner and a number of American Flags.

There were flyers to develop, programs to design, spreadsheets to track reservations, funds to be collected, press releases to write, food to be ordered..... The list was endless..... However, the
