Opportunities to Connect
At a recent charge conference, Pastor Mark Wills shared an opportunity to join Governor Haslam's Tennessee Promise initiation by becoming a mentor to high-school students. According to the TN Promise website, "Mentors are crucial to the Tennessee Promise program. They are the folks who will help students navigate the college admissions process and ensure they complete Tennessee Promise program requirements in order to receive the scholarship." In addition to college admission tasks, eight hours of community service are required from each participant prior to each semester she or he attend college.
This is a great way to connect students to their communities, to a church, and to develop robust relationships. Visit www.driveto55.org to learn more about this opportunity and to find interesting data in regard to college education statistics in your county. Or visit www.tnachieves.org/a-mentor for requirements to participate and visit
