A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dr. Michael J. Coury mcoury@fatherlopez.org
"Where Were You When the Lights Went Out?" That was the title of a long-ago movie comedy starring Doris Day. Perhaps in somewhat comedic fashion, we can now add another tale of Lopez lore. After all, the lights did go out in the midst of our Fifty-Seventh Commencement Exercises. Nevertheless, a few minutes in a darkened auditorium could not diminish the light illuminated by the 91 newest Green Wave alumni. Although this year's senior class was the smallest of our four classes, they were big in many ways. Individually and collectively, the Class of 2016 proved to be outstanding leaders in all areas of school life. They made their mark in the classroom, in the arena of athletic and other co-curricular activities, and in the spirit of giving of themselves to help others. We are very proud of these graduates and of their many and varied accomplishments. It is always comforting to see that hard work, determination and achievement are still valued, recognized and rewarded. Evidence of such is provided throughout the program book distributed during our graduation ceremonies. As you peruse the booklet, you will note that 74 colleges and universities located in 22 states and in the District of Columbia granted acceptances to our 91 graduates. You will also find five pages of scholarships that were made available to our graduates. More have been received since then, pushing the total value of scholarships offered to over $5.2 million. That is a real tribute to these young men and women, to their parents, and to their teachers and coaches at Father Lopez. I know that you join me in congratulating our recent grads and praying for their continued success. As you get ready to enjoy the pleasantries of summer, I want to thank you for your interest and support for Father Lopez and the students we are privileged to serve. May God bless you, and may He bless all members of the family that is Father Lopez Catholic High School. |
