Earlier this week, six of our outstanding student-athletes signed national letters of intent to continue their academic studies and athletic careers on the collegiate level. This was a joyous occasion for family and friends who came together to celebrate in the Brown and Brown Field House. Needless to say, it was also a very proud moment for all of us in the Father Lopez community.
Our school has a very rich tradition in athletics. The many banners in the field house serve as a visual reminder of victories earned by the Green Wave. Additional evidence of success can be relived whenever two or more Lopez alums come together. There are many stories to tell, many memories to cherish. That legacy lives on and is exemplified by our most recent signees.
Signing national letters of intent this week were:
Dominic DiGioia (Stetson University/ Football);
Bailey Gillespy (University of Richmond/Track & Field);
Jake Godbee (Norwich University/Baseball);
Nick Ohlwein (Jacksonville University/Track & Field);
Nick Theriault (Stetson University/Cross Country); and,
DeVonté Woods (Palomar College/Football).
I admire these students on many fronts. They chose not to let injuries and other obstacles get in their way. They persevered, stayed the course, worked hard and further developed the gifts that God had given to them.
Additionally, they applied that same intensity in the classroom where they were rewarded for their scholastic efforts. They complimented their varied athletic achievements with a stellar
cumulative grade point average of 3.818. They are truly young scholars and athletes, as well as wonderful representatives of our school.
Our congratulations and appreciation is extended not only to these six students, but also to their parents, coaches, teachers and teammates who helped them turn dreams into reality. May God continue to bless them, and may He continue to bless all members of the family that is Father Lopez Catholic High School.
