A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dr. Michael J. Coury mcoury@fatherlopez.org
Each year, there are many noteworthy events and activities that take place at Father Lopez Catholic High School. Two of my personal favorites will occur during the first week in November--the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony on November 3 and the Grandparents' Mass and Luncheon on November 5.
NHS Moderators Katelyn Fisher '05 and Jamie Wade have informed me that 39 juniors and seniors have been selected for membership into the National Honor Society. They will join the 28 seniors who were inducted last year into this illustrious group. To be considered for membership, these students must possess a minimum grade point average of 3.5. In addition to demonstrated scholastic achievement, they must provide evidence of leadership, character and service. Simply stated, these students represent the best-of-the-best at Father Lopez!
Two days later, we will welcome many grandparents to our campus. They will join their grandchildren at a school-wide Mass with our Celebrant, Rev. Tom Barrett, Pastor of St. Brendan Catholic Church and Chairman of our Board of Directors. The grandparents and their grandchildren will be our guests for a special family-style lunch following the Mass.
At Lopez, we understand that parents are the first teachers of their children. We further note that the grandparents are the first teachers of the Lopez parents. Grandparents are a special gift not only to their own children, but also for their grandchildren--the students we are privileged to teach in our school. It will be an honor to share this very special morning with these very special people.
(So that we may have adequate seating for this event, we ask that grandparents RSVP to Heather Welch '02 by October 30.) |
