A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dr. Michael J. Coury mcoury@fatherlopez.org
21,765! That is a pretty big number that you can find on page 9 of our 2015 Annual Report magazine. It is as impressive as any of the multitude of numbers showcased in the report. This is also an inspiring integer because it speaks volumes about the goodness one can find within the hearts of our wonderful students at Father Lopez. What does 21,765 represent? That is the number of hours of community service that our most recent graduates provided to and for others during their four years at Lopez. This represents assistance offered to the elderly, the poor, the homeless and others in need--locally and beyond--through mission trips, class projects and various community service activities. Our Director of Mission Effectiveness, Marie Gallo-Lethcoe, coordinates and oversees our outreach program. To help create greater awareness of community needs, she organizes an annual Community Service Fair on campus. This year's event is being held on Monday, October 12.
During the fair, students will have the opportunity to learn more about the volunteer needs of several organizations in our area. They will be able to network with directors and volunteers from groups that include Halifax Health Hospice, Volusia County Libraries, Family Renew and YReads. They will also be able to register as a volunteer.
At Father Lopez Catholic High School, our students are mindful that God has blessed them with many gifts and talents. They also understand that the best way for each of us to thank the Giver is to share the gift.
Putting faith into action remains a core value in our school. It adds substance to the Lopez tradition of providing "a valued education". For this, we are all most grateful.
