A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dr. Michael J. Coury
mcoury@fatherlopez.org

This past week has featured several historic farewell events. No, I am not referring to the millions of television viewers (myself included) who tuned-in to see the final Late Night with David Letterman Show. Instead, I am referencing the hundreds (myself included) who came together to congratulate the 124 newest alumni from Father Lopez Catholic High School.

Our fifty-sixth graduating class was a history-making group. First of all, this is the largest class to ever graduate from Father Lopez. Moreover, this is our first $5 million class! As you will note in this program book, members of the Class of 2015 were offered over 150 college scholarships valued at more than $5,000,000. That's pretty impressive!

Included in our Graduation Highlights section below is a listing of the six recipients of the Crest of the Wave Award. One of the recipients, Zirui (Ryan) Shen, becomes the first international student to receive this lofty distinction. Additionally, this class featured six second-generation Green Wave. I believe this is the largest number of children of alumni to graduate in any single year. (We had five each in our last two graduating classes.)

Our history-making Class of 2015 is an adventurous group. Whether they have elected to attend college close to home or far away, or serve our country in the US Marine Corps (Jake Lambert), they are well prepared for the next leg of their life journey.

The facts speak for themselves. Leading colleges want them, and they further entice them with numerous scholarship opportunities. We are, of course, proud of this recognition. However, if simply preparing our students for college was all that we did at Father Lopez, then we would have failed in our mission as Catholic educators.  Our greater responsibility in partnering with parents is to educate the whole person and to help our students grow in faith and knowledge.

God has blessed our students in so many ways. We try to impress upon them that the greatest way for one to thank the Giver is to learn how to share the gift.  That is at the core of the Lopez experience, and that is part of the added value that one receives in your Catholic high school. (As evidence, please see additional information in this newsletter on the senior class gift, the mission trip to the Dominican Republic, and the Light of Faith Award.)

We are very proud of our most recent graduates. I know that you join me in congratulating them and praying for their continued success. May our Heavenly Father continue to bless them, and may He bless all members of this wonderful family that is Father Lopez Catholic High School.
CLASS OF 2015 MAKING A DIFFERENCE
During the last weeks of school, the Class of 2015 considered what to do with the class funds raised during their four years at Father Lopez. They decided to make a donation to Heifer International, an organization that "offers hope to families who are poor and hungry." Heifer International provides training and animals to children, families and communities around the world to help them become self-sufficient by creating small businesses.

Class Mentor and Moderator Robbie Snyder reports that the Class of 2015 purchased five starter flocks of 10-50 chicks; one "Milk Menagerie" which consists of one cow, two goats, and a water buffalo; and, will be sending four girls to school. This is just another way the Class of 2015 is making a difference in the world!
GRADUATION HIGHLIGHTS
Among the many highlights from our 56th graduation weekend were the commencement addresses given by Valedictorian Michael Krusick (Stetson University) and Salutatorian Emma Albrecht (University of Notre Dame).
L-R: Michael Krusick, Emma Albrecht, Kevin Scheiber
In the special awards category, 14 students were nominated by members of the school's faculty, staff and administration for the President's Award. This is the highest honor bestowed by the school upon a member of the graduating class. This award is given to one senior male and one senior female who most closely represent the ideal graduate of Father Lopez. This year's recipients were Kevin Scheiber (University of Florida) and Salutatorian Emma Albrecht.

This year there were 28 seniors nominated for the Crest of the Wave Award. Requirements include attending Father Lopez for a minimum of three years and demonstrating exemplary qualities of character, service, leadership, and co-curricular involvement. The six graduates recognized as Crest of the Wave (pictured L-R below) were Douglas Abate (Florida State University), Christian Borer (University of Florida), Michael Chaffman (Daytona State College), Logan DiMuro (Daytona State College), Ryan Shen (UMass Amherst) and Madison Young (Berry College).
STUDENTS EARN MICROSOFT CERTIFICATIONS
Computing for College and Careers teacher Isaac Denigan has shared the most recent group of students to have earned all three Microsoft Office Specialist 2013 Certifications--Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Students prepare and test onsite at Father Lopez Catholic High School for the industry recognized certifications.

Students must work extremely hard to receive all three certifications in a semester. Denigan reports a productive second semester with 12 students being awarded. Congratulations to Anita Annaheim '15, Angelina Barilla '16, Brooke Becker '16, Chase Berner '15, Alua Bootaeva '17, Brady Dymicki '16, Andres Echavarria '15, Charlie Gray '15, Nick Le '15, Paul Lozano '15, Selena Perez '16, and Madison Young '15.

NEW STREET SIGN
If you have driven onto the Lopez campus this week, you may have noticed the new street sign that has been placed along the circle drive in front of the chapel. One of the auction items at Celebrate 2015 was the opportunity to have one-year naming rights for the circle drive. Michael and Susan Dancsecs, the parents of sophomore Elisabeth, purchased the gift. They named the drive Dancsecs Way.

This might be a good time to save the date for Celebrate 2016. Our 34th annual dinner/auction will be held on campus in the France Family Multi-Purpose Center on Saturday, February 6, 2016. If you would like to help plan this fun and festive fund-raising event, please contact Development Director Heather Voges Welch '02
PRINTER'S PROOF FOR LOPEZ FUND
As we enter the final weeks of our fiscal year, we are looking ahead to the preparation of our Annual Report magazine. Among other things, the report will highlight the 2014-15 school year; showcase some of our alumni; and, acknowledge our donors from this fiscal year (July 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015).

In order to ensure accuracy in our donor list, a Printer's Proof for contributors to The Lopez Fund is shown below. Donors are asked to check the list to verify the correct spelling of their names. In the event we have overlooked anyone, we regret our error and ask that you reply to Director of Development Heather Voges Welch '02 so we may update our records before publishing the Annual Report magazine.

(Please note that this particular listing is for donors to The Lopez Fund. It does not include capital campaign gifts, Celebrate sponsorships, contributed services or gifts to clubs and teams.)

Gifts to The Lopez Fund benefit every student, every day at Lopez. These gifts allow us to minimize increases in tuition and help us bridge the gap between tuition revenue and the higher cost of educating each student.

GREEN WAVE SCENES

Lieutenant Colonel Oakland McCulloch presents Javier Stewart with the Army ROTC Scholarship for his "meritorious record in academic studies, extracurricular participation, and athletic activities, and having demonstrated exceptional leadership potential". Javier will begin his studies at University of South Florida.
Kevin Scheiber received a $2,500 scholarship from The NASCAR Foundation. Kevin will  continue his studies at the University of Florida.

The Republican Club of Southeast Volusia County awarded the 2015 Marsha Blanzenski Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 to Chris Johnson. Chris will continue his studies at Stetson University.
Mrs. Rinyu's environmental science classes got up close and personal with a variety of exotic critters recently. They learned about invasive species and the importance of making an educated decision when purchasing a pet.
DR Donations
Students who participated in the mission trip to the Dominican Republic donated their first batch of school supplies and clothing to benefit the children in our sister diocese. Marianne Rhode, Mission Office Volunteer (pictured far left) and Sister Bernie Mackay, Director of the Diocese of Orlando Mission Office (pictured far right) were on hand to receive the donations. The mission continues; donations are still being gratefully accepted!
Thanks to the generosity of donors who responded to a "Call to the Heart" at this year's Celebrate fundraiser, we were able to replace trees and beautify our courtyard!
