Help Me Thanksgiving Day Prayer
O God, when I have food,
help me to remember the hungry;
When I have work,
help me to remember the jobless;
When I have a home,
help me to remember those who have no home at all;
When I am without pain,
help me to remember those who suffer,
And remembering,
help me to destroy my complacency;
bestir my compassion,
and be concerned enough to help;
By word and deed,
those who cry out for what we take for granted.
Amen.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dr. Michael J. Coury
mcoury@fatherlopez.org

When the final class ends today, we will begin our week-long Thanksgiving holiday recess. This will be a well-deserved break from daily routines for our students, faculty and staff. It will also be a time for reflection, a time for us to ponder the many blessings that God has bestowed upon us.

At Father Lopez Catholic High School, we are thankful for the blessings that we discover in the wonderful students who attend our school. They are the force that energize us each day. We give thanksgiving for their parents, too. We appreciate the many sacrifices they make to provide their sons and daughters with the Lopez experience.

We are thankful for the dedicated and caring men and women who teach, coach, lead and assist our students on their journey through high school. Our faculty, staff, coaches and administrators share the gifts of wisdom, knowledge and love with our students on a daily basis.

We are proud of the legion of Green Wave alumni. Their many and varied accomplishments are a source of pride and inspiration for all of us. We also value their loyalty and support for the Lopez student of today.

We remain indebted to the pioneer families who first believed in our Catholic high school when the doors to Father Lopez opened in 1959.  We thank them and those who came after them for making Lopez their school-of-choice throughout this past half century. We thank our other friends and benefactors who have sustained the school throughout these many years. They made it possible for our new campus to be developed for the next generation of learners.

As you celebrate this Thanksgiving holiday with your family and friends, know that you remain in our prayers. We ask that God continue to bless you and all members of the family that is Father Lopez Catholic High School.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
As you read through this edition of eNEWS, please take note of the sampling of wonderful things that continue to happen every day at Father Lopez Catholic High School. Consider making an investment in the continued growth and success of our school and the students we serve by contributing to The Lopez Fund. Your prayers and financial support are needed and greatly appreciated.
SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD OF EXCELLENCE
The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) has presented a Sportsmanship Award of Excellence to Tomas Wick, a senior student-athlete on the Lopez cross country team. Tomas was cited by the FHSAA for his "exemplary display of sportsmanship, ethics and integrity" during the Disney Cross Country Classic in Orlando last month.

The nomination for this special recognition came from the cross country coach at Keystone Prep in Tampa. With great admiration, she noted how Tomas had encouraged one of her runners, helping him across the finish line. "The level of sportsmanship that your athlete displayed was incredible", she wrote. "He encouraged another runner instead of worrying about his own personal time."

We are proud to share the good news of this special recognition, and we congratulate Tomas, his family, teammates and Coach Sue O'Malley
NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY INDUCTS 39
In a special evening ceremony earlier this month, 39 juniors and seniors were inducted into the Father Lopez Chapter of the National Honor Society. The new members join 29 seniors who were inducted into the NHS last year. To be considered for membership, students in the junior or senior class must possess a minimum grade point average of 3.5. Additionally, the applicant must provide evidence that demonstrates how they meet the other criteria of leadership, service and character.

The other officers are: Lea Pafford (Vice President); Michael Krusick (Secretary); Samantha Mirante (Treasurer); and, Michael Munier (District President).

OPEN HOUSE A HUGE SUCCESS
Admissions Officers Carmen Rivera and Kathy Blais coordinated another successful Open House for prospective students on November 16. Amidst an air of excitement, families of 183 students enjoyed some Lopez hospitality as they toured the campus with our student ambassadors.

Along the way, families had the chance for a photo op with Oscar, our Green Wave mascot. They were able to observe some classroom activities in science and art, meet some of our faculty members, and visit several team and club informational booths in our Club Expo. Large crowds also attended the two formal information sessions.

The stars of the day, of course, were the nearly 100 student ambassadors who volunteered to help showcase our school. A special tip of the Green Wave hat goes out to the Ambassador Club Co-Presidents (Logan DiMuro, Madi Young and Shona Whitfield) and to other officers and student presenters (Corri Harris, Mia Prado, Alex Rivera, Brittany Tesssensohn, Sadie Tolbert and Paige Ward).

The next step in the application process for 8th graders is to complete an online application. The payment of a non-refundable $75 application fee is due at that time. Completing the application and paying the application fee reserves a place to take the High School Placement Test that will be administered at Lopez at 8:00 am on Saturday, December 6.

Eighth-graders who sit for the exam on December 6 are given priority in the application process. Please note that applicants who do not meet the December 6 application deadline will be considered for admission on a space-available basis.

WEATHER EMERGENCY ALERT "LOCK DOWNS"
This week, we experienced a Weather Emergency Alert "lock down" at dismissal time. Many thanks to our parents, staff, and students for understanding the importance of the safety and security of all present on our campus.

For our new families, and to serve as a reminder to all others, we initiate severe weather "lock down" procedures as soon as we receive a weather alert for our area. A weather alert may include tornadoes, lightning, high winds or damaging hail. At that moment our first priority is to relocate all students and staff to safe areas in a building. If it affects dismissal time, we then send out a "Parent Alert" text message via RenWeb to all telephone numbers listed as "correspondence". If you did not receive the text alert this week, please check your RenWeb account to make sure that you have entered your current contact information. Once the severe weather has passed, we will send out another text message to you.

These procedures have been established in accordance with Diocesan policy for the protection and safety of our students and staff. We appreciate your cooperation.
