A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dr. Michael J. Coury
mcoury@fatherlopez.org

"Welcome Back". Some of you may recall this catchy theme song from the popular 1970's TV sitcom, Welcome Back, Kotter. The song heralds the return of an alum (Mr. Kotter) to his old high school in Brooklyn, New York.

Next week, we will be beckoning our own alumni back to Father Lopez as we celebrate Homecoming 2014. While most of our activities will be focused on our current students, Alumni Director Monica Bryan MacIntyre '84 has some special plans in place for our former students.

On Friday evening, October 17, Lopez alumni from all years are invited to join us under the big top at the "Welcome Home Alumni Hospitality Tent". Complimentary food, beverages and treats will be available for our alums starting at 5:30 pm. School tours will also be offered. (A special thank you is extended to Lopez parent Glenn Yarbrough/Yarbrough Wealth Management for his assistance in helping to underwrite this alumni event.)

Following the reception, plan to stay and watch our Green Wave football team battle Maclay School from Tallahassee at 7:00 pm. This is an important district contest, as a Lopez win would guarantee a return trip to the playoffs next month.

Although Mr. Kotter may not be with us next week, we do hope that many alumni will join us so that we may say "Welcome Back"!
MISSION TRIP INFORMATIONAL MEETING
DR Mission kidsPlans are underway for a student mission trip to the Dominican Republic. The trip begins on March 7, 2015 and is open to Father Lopez sophomores, juniors and seniors.

CAMPUS MINISTRY IN OCTOBER
Celebrating the month of the Rosary!
This month we will focus on the Catholic Social Teaching theme of Respect for Life and Dignity.

Belief in the inherent dignity of the human person is the foundation of all Catholic Social Teaching. Human life is sacred, and the dignity of the human person is the starting point for a moral vision for society. This principle is grounded in the idea that every person is made in the image of God. The person is the clearest reflection of God among us. Every state of human life, from womb to tomb, is precious and worthy of respect and protection. We cannot live in a just society if we do not treat all life as sacred. Please click here to read more about October activities.

COUNSELING CORNER: THE CYBERBULLY AND YOUR TEEN

With the increased advancement in technology and cell phones over the past 10 years, teens and young adults have grown accustomed to using social media as their main means of communication. This brings with it a whole new dynamic to parenting and monitoring your teen's behavior. Social media and the use of smart phones can expose your child to negative electronic communication on a 24 hour basis.

Some of the most recent research released in 2014 from organizations such as the Pew Institute, the Auburn College of Education, the American Psychological Association, and the National Crime Prevention Council has revealed the following facts about cyberbullying:

1. Nearly 43% of kids have been bullied online. It has happened more than once to one in four... To read the full article, please click here.

LOPEZ STUDENTS VISIT BRIGHT HOUSE STUDIOS
Father Lopez TV Production students took the classroom on the road and visited the Bright House Sports Network studio recently. The students were invited by Bright House to train in sports reporting using their state-of-the-art production studio. Our students wrote scripts; filmed and produced their media coverage; and, were an integral part of editing and the creation of a final product for the actual Bright House Sports Network.
