We are seeking your feedback on our draft Professional Practice Standards
October 3, 2013 - November 17, 2013
Prior to proclamation of the Psychotherapy Act, 2007, the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario is required to have in place professional practice standards. These standards articulate minimum acceptable practice standards on the part of members in key areas such as client confidentiality, consent, and business practices, among others.
At its September 17th meeting, Council approved a draft version of the Standards for circulation to stakeholders for feedback. The College is inviting feedback on all sections of the Standards from interested stakeholders. It is important to keep in mind, however, that the Standards are based on the College's Professional Misconduct Regulation and other laws established in Ontario. For that reason, only limited changes are possible to the draft Standards. Where the College has interpreted or expanded upon the provisions of the Professional Misconduct Regulation, however, changes may be possible. Note: the Professional Misconduct Regulation itself is the result of extensive discussion and consultation with the profession throughout Ontario.
The transitional Council recognizes that certain topics covered in the draft Standards may require further elaboration in College guidelines, which may be developed at a future date. An exhaustive consideration of all practice issues is not feasible in this initial set of Professional Practice Standards.
We look forward to receiving your written comments by the November 17, 2013 deadline.
Please note: The document will undergo a final copy-edit following the consultation.
