Installs 1st ACCC Line In Russia
ACCC Conductor Installed to Increase Output of Geothermal Power Plant in Siberia
In early 2012, after an extensive technical evaluation and review, one of CTC Global's ten certified manufacturing / stranding partners, Lamifil, with the support of Simross, received 'type certification' for ACCC conductor by the Federal Grid Company of Russia (FSK), who operates and manages Russia's unified electricity transmission grid system, including high voltage transmission lines up to 750kV.
FSK's assets include more than 124,000 km of transmission lines and 854 substations with more than 322GVA of 35-750kV transformer capacity. Based on the length of transmission lines and installed transformer capacity, Federal Grid is the largest publicly traded electricity transmission company in the world and is responsible for grid facilities and infrastructure in 73 Russian regions, covering a territory of 13.6 million square kilometers. Its customers are regional distribution companies, electricity suppliers and large industrial enterprises.
In October of 2012, Novosibirsk Energy, with support of ZAO ESM, a well respected construction company, and FSK, began reconductoring an existing double circuit 110 kV transmission line connecting the Vostochnaya and Inskaya Substations. They selected 297 kcmil (153.7 mm^2) Helsinki ACCC to increase the line's capacity without the need to reinforce or raise existing lattice structures.
The project is located in the outskirts of Novosibirsk, which is the third largest city in Russia. Novosibirsk is located in Siberia in the geographical center of the country. In spite of challenging winters, Novosibirsk is a very beautiful city with a population of more than 1.5 million people. It is also one of the most important commercial and industrial centers in Siberia and is home to a very significant agricultural processing industry.
Quite interesting is also the fact that the substations and the double circuit 110kV line being replaced with ACCC conductor is used to link a very substantial geothermal power plant to the grid.
As the project started, Novosibirsk Energy expressed "We are pleased to have begun the first ACCC conductor installation in Russia, and believe that ACCC conductor is ideally suited to improve the capacity, efficiency and reliability of our grid."
CTC Global's installation supervisor, Chip White, also pointed out "Power demand is growing in and around Novosibirsk, which is a very industrious area. Using ACCC, we were able to double line capacity without having to modify or reinforce the existing structures. Novosibirsk Energy can now efficiently deliver more power from its geothermal plant to keep pace with growing demand using a very clean source of energy."
Chip also mentioned that several other ACCC installations are being planned in a number of regions throughout Russia. We will keep you posted. |

Since 2005, Sid has been our lead electrical engineer in charge of developing and maintaining all of our production equipment and pultrusion machines. Sid's intimate knowledge of our machinery and production process allowed him not only to build and maintain the equipment, but also incorporate a number of improvements that have helped advance the state-of-the-art. As an example, Sid designed and installed a number of laser sensors to monitor the flow of raw materials.
In addition to his support of CTC Global, Sid has also spent a number of years supporting VFW Veterans of Foreign Wars in a number of capacities. Sid is widely respected for his dedication, knowledge, compassion, and kindness.
Earlier this month Sid retired. The staff at CTC would like to congratulate Sid and wish him well in his pursuit of restoring cars and traveling. More than anything we will also miss his signature whistle which, not only made him easy to find, it was also uplifting to those around him. Sid, you are truly a gentleman and will be greatly missed. Godspeed, Sir!
