ACCC Installed in Qatar
ACCC "helps keep the AC on" during the Climate Conference in Doha, Qatar
In 2010, after completing a substantial test and evaluation protocol, CTC Global received "Type Certification" for ACCC conductor by Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA" in Doha, Qatar.
KAHRAMAA was established in July 2000 to regulate and maintain the supply of electricity and water to customers. Since its inception, KAHRAMAA has operated as an independent corporation on a commercial basis with a total capital of eight billion Qatari Riyals. KAHRAMAA is the sole transmission and distribution system owner and operator (TDSOO) for the electricity and water sector in Qatar.
In 2011 - 2012, KAHRAMAA used ACCC conductor to upgrade existing 132 kV circuits in Doha to increase their capacity from 125 MVA to 260 MVA. The high-strength and low-sag characteristics of the ACCC conductor combined with its high-efficiency and high-capacity make it an ideal conductor for use in the Middle East where high ambient temperatures and growing demand are prevalent.
While the climate conference in Doha provided an eight year extension of the Kyoto Protocol, it also helped further align the interests of developed and developing countries. While it was recognized that there is much more work to do to unify a global strategy - expected to be in place by 2020 - it was very apparent that technology will need to be fully leveraged in order to meet certain objectives.
Considering that the world consumes over 20 trillion kWh of electricity every year and more than 1.2 trillion kWh are lost to transmission inefficiencies, the ACCC conductor is one such technology that can - and is - being used to reduce line losses, reduce electricity costs, and decrease associated emissions.
The ACCC conductor's ability to reduce line losses by one-third or more could potentially reduce CO2 emissions by over 290 million metric tons every year if the ACCC conductor was widely deployed. This is the energy equivalent of saving over 466 million megawatt hours of electricity, which is the generation equivalent of 53,267 megawatts. Keep in mind that it is much less expensive to save energy than it is to generate it.
From an oil-energy perspective, at a Btu conversion rate of 42%, the energy saved would equal over 1.9 billion barrels of oil annually. For more information about the ACCC conductor's improved efficiency please contact CTC.

CCP Software
Makes ACCC Conductor Selection Easy
Responding to an ever-increasing demand to help select the most appropriate size of the highest performing ACCC conductor available, CTC Global has developed a new software program, CCP.
The program is available at no charge to utility planners, transmission engineers and others involved in conductor selection, project engineering and project economics. Using the design parameters associated with your specific project, CCP can calculate and compare ampacity, sag, tension, line losses, and the economics associated with the reduction in thermal sag and line losses the ACCC conductor offers compared to any other conductor of the same diameter and weight.
To receive a free copy of CCP, or to request help with your project, please visit CTC Global's website for more information.
