Connecting Our History to Our Future

Capitol Hill High School Supporters,

As promised, we want to update you on the progress of the Mascot Selection Task Force and provide next steps for the selection of a new mascot for Capitol Hill.

The 20 member Mascot Selection Task Force has met twice and developed guidelines in selecting a new mascot, reviewed suggestions from the CHHS student body and selected 4 options that will be presented to Superintendent Neu and his leadership team.

The Mascot Selection Task Force developed guidelines include:

  • The mascot must have meaning to the school and have a reason behind it.
  • The group must consider what it means to be a student here and what makes us different.
  • Should instill pride
  • Avoid a mascot with human characteristics
  • Retain the legacy of the school and south side roots
  • Pride in helpfulness of the school
  • Evoke a sense of fun!

After reviewing the student suggestions and taking into account the committee's guidelines; the following mascots will be recommended to OKCPS Superintendent Rob Neu and his leadership team:

  1. Red Hawks
  2. Red Wolves
  3. War Eagles
  4. Nations

Superintendent Neu and his leadership team review all the options to make sure there are no trademark or copyright issues; once this is step is complete a professional illustrator will be hired to develop logo options based on the recommendations.

The Capitol Hill High School student body will vote on the options and a public announcement will be made in May.  The next update will be presented to the OKCPS Board of Education during its March 16th meeting at 5:30pm. You are more than welcome to attend the meeting!

Thank you for your support during this process, in the coming weeks we will share with you opportunities to help us celebrate this transition and the legacy of Capitol Hill.
