Here are the major details in the bill, which will bring significant tax hikes to some households in an effort to increase federal revenues by $600 billion over the next ten years.

IRS Begins Processing 1040s January 30 

 

Following the January tax law changes made by Congress, the Internal Revenue Service announced it plans to open the 2013 filing season and begin processing individual income tax returns on January 30.

 

1040 form The announcement means that the vast majority of tax filers should be able to start filing tax returns starting January 30.

 

The IRS estimates that remaining households will be able to start filing in late February or into March because of the need for more extensive form and processing systems changes. This group includes people claiming residential energy credits, depreciation of property or general business credits.

This Could be Fun - Adventure Travel 

 

From the Wall Street Journal, information about Road Scholar which is the educational travel program formerly known as Elder Hostel. The program offers domestic and international educational adventures each year in the U.S. and 150 countries around the world.

 

Travel adventures are open to all ages but most packages appeal to baby boomers and beyond. There are special programs offered for solo women travelers and intergenerational trips for grandparents and their grandchildren.

Our economy doesn't revolve around a single issue - but in December, it almost seemed as if it did. Everyone worried that America would fall off the "fiscal cliff" come January 2. In the wake of the crisis, stocks showed remarkable resilience - the S&P 500 actually gained 0.71% in December.
