Our 2nd Grade Chicks Have Hatched!
All but one chick has hatched!  The 2nd grade began their lesson with 2 chicks and 7 eggs.  Just in the last 3 days, we've had 4 chicks hatch from their eggs, 3 of which students had the pleasure to watch during the school day.

Dear CES Families,

It is that time of year again...the time of year when I am faced with the reality of the school's year-end budget and our financial resources.  The faculty, staff and I stepped out in great faith, based on previous years' giving levels and made a commitment to provide your children with a wonderfully creative, engaging and vibrant education led by highly skilled and talented educators.  The 2015-2016 school year has been terrific.

Now, we need your help in closing the giving gap!  Our goal for the year is $250,000; and, we need to raise $23,000 between now and June 30 to completely close the gap.  Your children have participated in terrific field trips and richly diverse physical education classes.  They have created beautiful pieces of art and performed in a variety of school concerts and shows.  Everyday there is access to a robust technology "world" that even our youngest children enjoy in fun and appropriate ways.  Oceans of paper, pencils, glue, scissors, and other materials are used to enhance learning at all ages.  New textbooks and science lab materials have been purchased and used to insure a first-rate, 21
st century education.

Please remember that we did not ask you to sell candy bars, wrapping paper or restaurant cards.  We are asking you to invest directly in your children and Christ Episcopal School.  If you have not already made a donation, make one now, here:  http://cesrockville.org/donate.  If you have already given, please consider another contribution.  We are pushing towards the June 30 deadline which closes out our fiscal year.

There is no better investment for you than your child!  Make your donation in support of your child and in recognition of the tireless work done by CES faculty and staff every day.

With love and gratitude,

Caroline Chapin, Ed.D

 Important Announcements
  • Please find our 2016-2017 Extended Day Contract attached here.

  • Field Day is next Friday, May 27th and we still need parent volunteers!  If you're available, please send an email to [email protected].

Spring Sing, Art Show & Garden Party Pictures

Last Friday, May 13th, our Preschool celebrated the end of the year and the arrival of Spring with a Spring Sing, an Art Show, and a Garden Party.  All families were invited to come watch their students perform and see all of their artwork hanging. Thank you for those of you who shared this special day with us!

5th & 6th Grade Safety Patrol Picnic

The 5th and 6th grades attended the Montgomery County safety patrol picnic, which was held at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds.  It involved almost a 1000 patrols from various schools enjoying the many carnival rides, DJ music, and fun games.  We were fortunate to get a sunny day amidst the weeks of rain we have had recently.  It was a great day!

K, 1, 2, & 3 Community Settings

K, 1,2,and 3 are doing Community Settings. Each class chose a community setting. K is Ooh La La! Bakery, 1st is Cherry Merry Ice Cream Parlor, 2nd is Bienvenido to El Pollito Mexicano and 3rd is a movie theater. They then planned a menu, made decorations, created grocery lists, wrote invitations, and worked at the shop. Students needed to estimate the amount of food needed to serve their guests as well.  Some jobs are greeters, servers, food preparers, and cashiers.  Each class (and Pre-K, 4th and chapel partners) come to the shop and order, eat and pay for their food.  Students practiced their math skills through the exchange of money, tallying bills, and adding their proceeds at the end of each day.

  Parents Association

We are welcoming all used uniform donations, particularly smaller sized uniforms, for both boys and girls.  With the year coming to a close, and growth spurts continuing, don't hesitate to gather uniforms that no longer fit your students!

 2016-2017 School Supplies Pre-Order Program
Orders can be placed now through May 27

Did you know you can pre-order 2016-2017 school supplies NOW and have them waiting for your child in the classroom on the first day of school?!

The CES Parents Association again offers parents the pre-order opportunity.  Today through Friday, May 27, go to www.shopttkits.com, using CES school code 23676.  Once on the CES page, select your child's 2016-2017 grade level to order the appropriate supplies.

Note:  All parents of 7th graders should also order the 7th Grade Calculator (for use in 7th and 8th grades).  Any 8th graders not having the calculator should also order one.

Items offered for sale on the CES page below the grade-specific school supplies and the calculator are optional items for families to consider if interested.  They are not required school supplies.

School supply lists will be provided in the students' summer work packets for families who wish to shop themselves for school supplies.

Our Parents Association receives 10% of the total value of our school supply order.  Remember to complete your order by Friday, May 27. If you have any questions, please email Kristen Ward at [email protected].

Annual Fund Donor Recognition
Click the following link to find a draft of the names and giving levels of the donors to this years' CES Annual Fund.  We are asking each family named to make sure your name is spelled correctly and the amount of your donation is accurate.  Please notify Bob Treseler at [email protected] if you note an error.  The  completed document will be posted here, http://cesrockville.org/who-gives, at the end of the school year.

Annual Fund Update
As we approach the 'home stretch' of the school year, the administration, faculty and staff at Christ Episcopal School would like to share our gratitude and thanks to all of you who have given so generously of your time, talent, and treasure to help us to raise monies for the 2015 - 2016 CES Fund.  Please read a letter from CES Fund Chairs Cindy and Mark Derrick, also parents to Ashley and Jordan, about their experience and love for CES.

Our fundraising goal from the parent community is $175,000. To date we have raised $112,000,  compared  to  $140,000  at this  time  last year. Reaching $175,000 is one goal; another goal is 100% parent participation. As the Class Giving percentage box below illustrates, current parent giving has dropped significantly since last year. We would ask all of you to please encourage your fellow parents to support this fund which bridges the gap between tuition raised and the actual cost of a CES education.

If you have not yet donated, please participate today. You may drop off a check with Cailen at the front office, or donate via this link, http://cesrockville.org/donate, today. To see how else you can give, please visit http://cesrockville.org/how-to-give.

RESULTS!
Drizzle and overcast skies welcomed more than 90 golfers May 3, 2016 to Blue Mash Golf Course for the 20th Annual CES Golf Classic.  The rain stopped right before the shotgun start, however, and more than $30,000 was raised to benefit the CES Need Based Tuition Assistance program for current and incoming families.
This year's Best Ball tournament was won by Steve Parker, Curt Wagner, Scott Parker, and Bob Moore, representing Baltimore Truck Center.  This year's Cardinal Cup was won by CES Class of 2001 graduates and current members of the CES Board of Governors Cliff Veirs and Sandy Thompson. Steve Ward, Class of 1980, representing his company, Rockville Fuel and Feed, is the Classic's Presenting Sponsor; Jeff Whitman, representing the Classes of 2024 and 2025, served as this year's Golf Classic Chair.  Thanks to all that came out to make this event such a great success.
