FEBRUARY 2013
Greetings!

WOW, it is February already!  Punxsutawney Phil did not see his shadow and so an early Spring is on its way.

We have some exciting events planned this month.  On the 16th, we want to honor and thank our caregivers at our monthly meeting. Please bring your spouse, partner, family, friend or kids.  They are all welcome!

On the 21st, Dr. Brittany Kolluru will be our guest for our monthly webinar.  She will speak on "Eating to Feel Good!"

Our social event this month is a little different.  We are going to visit Dream Dinners and take home meals that we just have to pop in the oven or microwave when we are too pooped to cook.

PS... Think of one person with fibromyalgia or ME/CFS who has told you, "I wish there was some support for people like us!" and  to him/her.

Caregiver Appreciation Day!

Saturday, February 16th 1-4:00 PM

Our February meeting is about our caregivers.  So, please bring along your spouse, partner, friend, children, etc.  We hope to accomplish two goals:

  • Thank our caregivers.
  • Give our caregivers a place to ask questions and see that we all experience fatigue, brain fog, pain, etc.

We will have a panel of caregivers which will include Jamie Liptan (Dr. Liptan's husband), Bob Staples (Tamara's husband) and possibly a third person.

Please bring your questions and have your caregiver's bring their questions.  To get the meeting started, we will begin by asking the panelists some questions such as:

  • How did you feel when your wife/husband was diagnosed?
  • Did you feel like you really understood how he/she felt at first?
  • Did your understanding change as things went on?
  • When did you REALLY get it - in terms of how sick he/she was?
  • How did his/her diagnosis change your relationship?

Tami Stackelhouse will also do a short demonstration of "The Spoon Theory," which should help those in attendance better understand what it is like to live with chronic illness, fatigue and pain.

New Website Update...

The new website is coming along nicely.  We are hoping to transition over within a couple more weeks.

We will notify you when it is up and running!

Thank you to Paym Weaver, The Time Fairy!

I am sad to say that Paym is leaving us.  She is moving back to Michigan within the week.

Paym has been such an amazing friend to our group and our members.  She selflessly shuttled members back and forth to meetings at no charge.

What Paym had to say about this is..."I have also appreciated the clientele that I've been able to help; I think I've benefitted more than they every could!"

We sincerely thank Paym for all she did and for being the joyous soul she is.  We wish her the best in her move, but will sorely miss her!

Understanding the Family Leave Act and Your Rights at Work Cindy Hooker

January's presentation was geared towards those who are currently working, as well as those who are thinking about going back to work.

Have you ever wondered about the Family Leave Act? Were you aware that it doesn't apply to all companies?

Have you ever wondered what you should or shouldn't tell your employer about your disability?

Have you wondered how much to share in a job interview?

Cindy Hooker is a human resources expert and she was here to answer these questions and more. She explained the Family Leave Act, as well as other Federal and State leave laws.

Cindy also shared with us what our rights are, along with what rights employers have, regarding disabilities.

Webinar: General Goal Setting with Health Coach, Tami Stackelhouse

If you're tired of setting New Year's resolutions that you never seem to keep, don't worry - you're not alone! For many of us with fibromyalgia and CFS, it can seem as if setting goals and reaching them only works for healthy people!

Would you like to learn a gentle way to set and reach your goals this year?

Gentle Goal Setting, was our January webinar with Fibromaylgia Coach, Tami Stackelhouse.  During the webinar, we learned how to set goals that we truly felt we could actually accomplish - while feeling good about ourselves in the process.

Tami walked us through the process of choosing an appropriate goal, creating a vision of what that goal looks like, taking stock of where we were right then, then writing down the baby steps.

After the webinar, we had a plan of action that will help to pull us towards our goals - and the knowledge we can use this process on any goal we want to reach.
