PGWA Board News
Board of Directors Election Results
The PGWA Board of Directors general election was held in January at which time 12 candidates were elected to the board. At its February meeting, the new board selected officers to serve for the year. The 2014 officers and
directors are:
 |
Ana Keller is the new President of the PGWA
|
- Ana Keller, President
- Doug Cover, Vice President
- Gayle Crayne, Treasurer
- Joan Griffin, Secretary
- Drew Buechley, Director
- Paul Clary, Director
- Linda Corbett, Membership Chair
- Cecilia Enriquez, Director
- Marie McCusker, Director
- Jude Mion, Director
- Mark Pasternak, Director
- Evan Pontoriero, Director
The board wishes to express its extreme gratitude to outgoing president Paul Clary. Paul served as president of the PGWA for 3 years, during which time his leadership helped to significantly promote the winegrape growers and vintners of the Gap. Paul remains on the board as a director.
Committee Established to Explore AVA Status
In other actions, the PGWA board established a committee to explore the possibility of petitioning to the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (otherwise known as the TTB) to become an official American Viticultural Area (AVA). The AVA petition process can be costly, lengthy, and fraught with challenges, but becoming an AVA can provide many advantages to the winegrape growers in the Gap as well as to wineries who produce wine from grapes grown in the Gap.

Wine Pouring Seminar was a Huge Hit!
 |
It was a full house for the PGWA wine pouring seminar!
|
On February 20, Dr. Liz Thach, Master of Wine, instructed the PGWA's first wine pouring seminar to a full house. The seminar was so popular, it filled up within three days of being announced! The wines that we showcased were:
- Karah Estate Chardonnay
- Keller Estate La Cruz Chardonnay
- Morris Ranch Pinot Noir
- Guarachi Family Wines Pinot Noir
- Fogline Vineyards Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
- Wind Gap Griffin's Lair Syrah
Feedback after the seminar suggests it was well received:
"Great program last night... very impressive... excellent speaker...
Keep programs like that coming."
"What a fabulous evening. Thank you for your work in putting this experience together. I do look forward to future events."
"I just wanted to thank you for your presentation last night. It was one of the best learning experiences that I've had and also so enjoyable. Truthfully, I don't drink much wine (I leave that to my wife); but if knowledge is power, I already feel like Super(wine)man and I know I've only just begun. I look forward to further opportunities."
