In ancient Greece, a dinner host would take the first sip of wine to assure guests the wine was not poisoned, hence the phrase "drinking to one's health." "Toasting" started in ancient Rome when the Romans continued the Greek tradition but started dropping a piece of toasted bread into each wine glass to temper undesirable tastes or excessive acidity (note: don't try this on your next wine tasting trip!). |

"Members Only" Holiday Party was a Big Hit!
 The PGWA "Members Only" Holiday Party was held at the Petaluma Arts Center on Wednesday, December 12th from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. More than 100 members and their guests attended this festive event! The Board of Directors provided cheese platters, sandwich wraps, grilled sausages, and a variety of other tasty bites. With everyone bringing a bottle of wine to share, there was plenty of wine to carry everyone through the music-filled evening. It was fun to taste the wide variety of great wines from the Gap, both commercial and home-made! And yes, a few non-Gap wines were smuggled in -- and some weren't too bad!
 The party was a great opportunity to reconnect with fellow PGWA members and toast the Holiday Season. Many members also took the opportunity to renew their membership for 2013 and purchase discounted tickets for the upcoming Winter Wine Soirée.

 Winter Wine Soirée 2013!
Plan now to attend our second annual Winter Wine Soirée at Petaluma's Mystic Theater on Saturday, January 26, 2013 from 6:30 to 11:00 pm. Approximately 15 vintners and wineries will be pouring cool climate chardonnay, pinot noir, and syrah sourced from Petaluma Gap fruit for your tasting enjoyment! Fabulous hors d'oeuvres will be catered by Sally Tomatoes. Wine tasting will run from 6:30 to 8:45 pm, followed by live music from 9:00 to 11:00 pm.
Tickets are $40 per person and can be purchased directly through the Mystic Theatre. You must be 21 to attend!
