Greetings Fellow Healer,
 | The Healer's Life! Integrating Life Events - Dr. Elisabeth Crim & Moonstone Center |
Wow, it has been a while since I have written to you and sent you a video through The Healer's Life! Since January 18...I apologize for my absence in February. It brings me to what I want to talk about this month. Integrating Life events....
In February, my brother's wife passed away. This was a very terrible, painful, shocking, yet not surprising and throughout...and still, very affecting event. She had been very very ill, so not surprising. She was still young, so very shocking. We all know we will die some day. We are rarely ready to die or experience a loved one leaving us.
I share this very personal event in my life journey to illuminate the Aha I am still discovering or re-discovering as this is not my first loss. Pain and loss, a death, or even celebration and beauty, a new birth, transitions and change come often at times we do not expect. Even if we expect, plan for, consider a coming event, our experience of that event can be shocking. Some life events are sudden and require our full attention - mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, relationally, and financially. This recent loss in my life resulted in a renewed and deepened connection with my brother, and our extended family of origin. It required that I return to former family system roles and deepen newer ones as I shared this loss with my husband and my children in my current immediate family life. It pulled me without warning into active engagement with old friends and family at a level of intense emotional sharing and relating, that had not occurred at this level in some time.
Life events also often physically take us places and can disrupt our plans and routine. I flew from California to Tennessee. I planned this within a day and flew out and returned within a long weekend. This newsletter did not get written or video taped. Appropriately, other scheduled activities had to be re-arranged.
And, I am changed. I am altered. Even though I have been back to my normal routine and involved actively in my life since my return flight, I am also on a deeper level, just coming up for air and finding center and presence in my life here again. This presence is filled with new and renewed relational and emotional experiences - including deep grief and loss as well as the tender goodness of reconnection that only weddings, funerals, new born children and their later milestone graduations and return visits home seem to bring us.
I invite you to consider your life and remember that with all that you are doing, you are not truly in control and that at any moment a new or changed life, a new death or simply a new experience will impact you. Whether you take time consciously or not, you are impacted. You are changed. A life event has affected your very life, mind, body, and spirit.
I am returning. I am finding joy in my own deeps again. I still laugh often and easily as before. I am genuinely engaged and involved with family, patients, colleagues. I also feel an unfamiliar tension in my body and spirit that when I pause and tune in, realize is grief and sadness, a wondering or worrying about my brother, and thoughts and feelings that I do not always have clear words for, but recognize as related to this loss or other life events I am processing... when I pause, breath, think and feel.
Finally, I believe that when I pay attention to my mind, body, spirit, relationships and finances, holding this recent life-changing loss in my awareness, I actually find more space, a sweet tender feeling that has joy right next to the sorrow. I begin to integrate and become a new whole.
Pay attention, create space for the unexpected life events and experiences that you encounter along your life journey. You are carrying them with you whether you pay attention or not. Pause and breath and pay attention, sometimes silently and privately, sometimes aloud with others. Integrate these experiences within your whole being. Emerge more whole, more complex, with renewed joy and peace.
I send love to you today fellow Healer. Thank you for journeying with me through the The Healer's Life!, , , various Professional ListServs and out in the community when I speak, write, or network.
Peace, Gratitude, Space to Integrate and Restore,
Elisabeth and the Moonstone Center Team

Another Note: Check out the video below on Grief and Loss from the Hospice Foundation of America. They discuss loss of persons to death, or protracted illness, which affects each one of us at some point of our life journey.
I also found it applicable to the many life events that effect change and transitions and the inherent loss of what had been a known pattern or process or relationship dynamic in our lives with another person or situation in our lives. For us as health care providers principles of grief and loss must be attended to for our own health and wellness in our personal and professional life journey.
Even positive and planned-for Transitions incorporate loss as well as new life, joy, and hope! Take time and space to find your new whole, your new normal. This video can speak to that.
I hope you find it helpful for yourself, as well as a patient, family member, or friend.

Aware of your own Counter-Transference with certain patients and needing a place for expert help in attending to it,
Desiring to utilizing your patient's transference and your own counter-transference for positive treatment outcomes?
If you answered Yes! to any of these, you may want to consider the Power of Consultation for support, clinical case exploration, transference/counter-transference issues, mind-body-spirit-relational psychotherapy and your own process and planning in your professional life journey!
I approach each professional with whom I consult from an inter-subjective approach, honoring both of our sets of knowledge, experience, and passion. I offer consultation within a context of safety and compassion toward self with a healthy dose of humor where possible! We are merely human beings who happen to be healers of other human beings on this journey called Life! I offer a space to safely explore what being a therapist, or other type of healing professional means to you and how to better assure you are going forward safely (emotionally, mentally, relationally, and yes spiritually and physically) for yourself and for those you are treating. I do this from a clinical perspective that is grounded in an inter-subjective and holistic psychodynamic approach to individuals and relationships.
