Greetings Fellow Healer!
First of all,  a special thanks to Clarissa Vasquez, Outreach Director for Fusion Academy, Hermosa Beach! Fusion Academy    hosted a vibrant networking event on October 25 where professionals from mental health, education, and other health care disciplines met for a delicious catered lunch and an hour presentation led by me on  Therapeutic Education: The Power and Purpose of Collaborative Professional Teams.  It was a very dynamic group and a fulfilling experience for all in attendance.

A shout out to a very fun and mentally expanding IFPE Conference (International Forum for Psychoanalytic Education held in Philadelphia, PA!  What a phenomenal group of psychodynamic, spiritual, mindful, bodily-aware, and fabulously creative people.  I thoroughly enjoyed meeting new friends and colleagues and trying out my new presentation, Transient and Enduring CounterTransference:  A Life Journey as Woman and Psychodynamic Psychotherapist. The experience of celebrating and honoring the transience and permanence of the beautiful Sand Mandala created by Tibetan Buddhist Monk, Losang Samten  was especially powerful and moving.

THIS WEEK through December 1 - Please check out the amazing Art Exhibit, Mirrors of the Mind 2, curated by Dr. Terry Marks-Tarlow for LACPA and on display at Art Share LA in the Los Angeles Art District.  Join me Saturday, November 30 for the Open Mic Poetry Reading where I will be sharing a new poem, A Woman's Journey as Psychotherapist and Healer.  Author, Dr. Terry Marks-Tarlow will also be reading along with other published poets. A delight to your senses, I promise!

And for those of you asking for a Restorative Yoga Consultation Group Restoring Healerbased on Moonstone Center's 6 hour CE Course, Restoring the Healer: Exploring Somatic Transference and Compassion Fatigue:  We have heard you!  Simone Marke't, Certified Yoga Therapist and I will be co-leading a consultation group in 2014 that incorporates Restorative Yoga with Case Consultation that attends to psychotherapists holistically. It's gonna be good!  6 CEUs over four 1.5 hour sessions.  Check out the website for more info. And, Email Me if you are interested!

And to my message...

This weekend is our Thanksgiving Holiday! I plan to spend it with my husband, stepdaughter and dear family friends.  I have a delicious Apricot and Grand Marnier stuffing I prepare each year along with my Grandmother's Mac n Cheese!  I love this holiday as it invites us to slow down, spend time with loved ones and eat delicious soul-satisfying food!  Plus, I always enjoy a good Dallas Cowboy football game - a tradition that goes back to my childhood with my father!   I know that many of you reading this month have your own traditional dishes, experiences and families and friends you will be joining this Thanksgiving.  I hope that those traditions warm your soul and feed your spirit this season.  I also hope that you discover some delightful new experiences with some new relationships this Holiday as well.

I also want to speak to the concept of Thanks-giving.  Giving Thanks as a state of being.  Being in a state of mind and body and spirit in which you energetically move into a centered place where you allow your mind to expand and reflect and look around and choicefully identify people, situations, experiences, relationships and even material things for which you feel gratitude.

There is a Biblical scripture that states, "In all things give thanks!"  As a child I thought of this as a noble and high goal to set, but never expected to reach.  I had a sense that it was not really possible to be grateful for all things as there were definitely some things I experienced for which I was absolutely not thankful!  I think that many of us could feel that way even still.  However, I also later discovered that the scripture was really more of an invitation to a state of mind.  Gratitude is a way of being present to your life.  Giving thanks as you enter each situation, take on each task, or interact with each individual you encounter is a choice and a discipline to be practiced mindfully.

Give thanks. Gratitude, when active, has a certain positive energy about it.  It lifts your eyes, your attention, your focus, your mood, even your feeling about the very thing you are naming for which you are grateful!  Another scripture states that "God inhabits the praises of his people."   And I have discovered that for me, with my view of God as a very powerful Source and Creative Energy, that when I practice Being Thankful for even difficult situations and people I do not easily enjoy, I energetically allow God or Source or Creative Energy to dwell in the situation and my relationship with that person.  I have observed both the situation, the other person, and/or myself change following this intention of gratitude. The powerful change that can be witnessed or experienced can be beautifully surprising!

So I invite you to allow Thanksgiving to be to a joyful, delicious, fun, relaxed holiday in which you enjoy time alone or with cherished family and friends.  I also invite you to invite yourself into a state of being that is thankful.  A state of gratitude and mindful intention for whatever you are doing in the present moment, wherever you find yourself, and with whomever you find yourself engaging.

A major point of gratitude for me is my team, the Moonstone Center Team:  Julie Brown, Events and Community Liaison; Bill Hawver, IT, Photography/Video, Finance, and our Integrative Treatment Team: Simone Marke't, Certified Yoga Therapist, Kathleen Lowry, LAc, Diplomate, Licensed Acupuncturist, and JoAnn Fitzpatrick, MFT, Adolescent and Family Therapist.  Together, we - and you as you join us - are Moonstone Center!  (Special thanks to Bill's extra editing required for this month's Gratitude CAM!)

I am equally thankful that I have this opportunity to connect with you in a virtual way and celebrate gratitude and Being Thankful.  Thank you for meeting me here. Some of you I get to see in person in my professional life and others - You never know when we will meet in person and get to celebrate that we have connected prior through this newsletter and video.  Please check out this month's video below.  I had the opportunity to set up a Gratitude Cam and ask some colleagues what they were thankful for.  There are some lovely sentiments shared.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed asking the question and they seemed to enjoy answering.

In fact, I invite you to take a moment now and answer the question:  What are you grateful for?!

I look forward to connecting over our upcoming December Holidays, but until then,

Peace and Deep Gratitude,

Another Note:

Make sure you attend to your whole person this Thanksgiving Weekend.  Mentally, Emotionally, Physically, Spiritually, and Relationally.  In addition to the turkey and stuffing or dressing, add a walk through your neighborhood alone or with a family member.  Take in a yoga class.  Enjoy a quiet cup of coffee or a glass of wine with a friend or family member you do not see often.  Take a nap.  Watch a good movie or read a good book.  Take time for you in all the ways that you are you!
